Fit tightness
Testing fit tightness:
1. Open shutoff valve by 1/2 a rotation.
2. Dry off the bottom part of the nozzle and the nozzle
holder to guarantee a reliable assessment of the nozzle.
3. Slowly push down hand-operated lever on the
EPS 100 until the pressure gauge shows a pressure
of 20 bar below the opening pressure previously
read off.
"
At this pressure, no drips must fall from the nozzle
mouth for a period of 10 seconds.
i
It is permissible for the nozzle mouth to be slightly
damp. Any escaping leak oil must not falsify the test
result.
i
If a drip falls within 10 seconds, the nozzle and
holder must be dismantled and cleaned. If a further
test reveals a leak, the nozzle and associated nozzle
holder parts must be replaced.
!
The reworking of nozzle components (nozzle body
and nozzle needle) is not permitted!

Combined leak test
This requires the nozzle to have a tight fit
(see Chapter 5.4).
Combined leak measurement:
1. Close shutoff valve
2. Flush nozzle and holder through several times.
3. Open shutoff valve by ½ a rotation.
4. Increase the system pressure P
operated lever.
i
ISO 4008-3 distinguishes between the following
setpoint values in dependence of opening pressure:
Opening pressure
Specification
Up to 125 [bar]
100 [bar]
Above 125 [bar]
120 [bar]
5. Release the hand-operated lever and measure the
time spread of the pressure drop from P
Opening pressure
Specification
Up to 125 [bar]
80 [bar]
Above 125 [bar]
100 [bar]
6. The permitted pressure drop times are contained in
the Test Instruction for Nozzle Holder Assemblies in
ESI[tronic].
i
If the permitted pressure drop time is underrun, the
test must be repeated twice. The nozzle and holder
must be flushed through between each test with the
pressure gauge switched off (shutoff valve closed).
!
If the permitted pressure drop time is also underrun
during the repeat tests, the nozzle must be replaced.
