The dosing control unit precisely adjusts the dosing
quantity based on important engine parameters such
as operating temperature, rotational speed and engine
load for optimum nitrogen oxide reduction. This tech-
nology allows for compliance with emissions limits
according to the European emissions standard Euro
6 and stricter. The software for the exhaust gas treat-
ment system Denoxtronic may have its own control unit
or be integrated into other control units. This means no
dedicated dosing control unit is required.
3.6.1
Denoxtronic 5.x systems
The exhaust gas treatment systems Denoxtronic 5.x use
2 pumps (a delivery pump and a return pump) in the
AdBlue circuit. Also, the pressure in the AdBlue circuit
is no longer constant but variable. The delivery module
on the AdBlue tank cannot be removed. This means
that separate testing of delivery modules with the
adapter 0 986 613 465 (test tank) is not possible. Only
the pump element (delivery pump with return pump)
can be exchanged.

Test requirements

Before the functional test is carried out, the following
testing requirements must be met:
R
The AdBlue tank is filled with pure AdBlue. The
AdBlue has the correct concentration. Dilution
with water is impermissible and will lead to mal-
functions and defects. Also, the AdBlue must not
be too old (max. 1–2 years old, depending on the
manufacturer's specifications).
R
Use the refractometer 0 986 610 511 to check the
AdBlue in the tank. The refractometer can detect
diluted or aged AdBlue. Setpoint: 32.5 % +/–1.5 %.
In case of doubt, fill up the AdBlue tank with fresh
AdBlue.

R
Use the oil test strip 0 986 610 521 to check the
AdBlue for contamination with diesel fuel. If pre-
sent, use the dipstick of the AdBlue tank to mois-
ten the oil test strip. If no dipstick is present, use a
clean, thin PVC hose to remove some AdBlue from
the tank. A discoloration of the oil test strip indi-
cates contamination with diesel fuel or some other
mineral oil. As little as 50 mg/l diesel fuel the Ad-
Blue will yield a slight positive reaction. 100 mg/l
will yield a clear positive reaction.
R
Should the tank be deformed (contracted) or
should air be drawn in with a hissing sound due to
significantly low pressure, it is an indication of a
clogged tank ventilation system. Resolve the fault.
R
Perform all tests at workshop temperatures bet-
ween 15 °C and 35 °C. In low temperatures, the
AdBlue will be preheated by the heater in the tank.
This is necessary as AdBlue has a high water con-
tent and is susceptible to freezing (freezing point:
approx. –11 °C).
R
The scale 0 986 610 838 is calibrated (see sec-
tion 4.3). In order to compare the dosed quantities
to the specified tolerances, it is necessary to use
the scale to weigh the quantities.
i
The scaling of the measuring vessel 0 986 610 518
is insufficient for evaluating the dosing quantity!
R
The measuring device 0 986 610 352 is equipped
with fresh blotting paper for the spray pattern test.
R
The dosing module is correctly attached to the
measuring device 0 986 610 352 or the measuring
vessel 0 986 610 518. The correct adapter ring
and holding clamp for the dosing module to be
tested have been selected according to the over-
view on the second but last page.
i
The eccentric ring is needed for dosing modules with
eccentric dosing valve seats. The locking pin on the
adapter ring must be in the groove on the screw-in
adapter. The dosing module's position depends on
the 3 grooves on the eccentric adapter ring.
R
For testing removed delivery modules (Den-
oxtronic 3.1 systems only) using the adapter
0 986 613 465 and subsequent installation
on the AdBlue tank, always use a new seal kit
(F 01C 300131).
R
Replace the seal before installing removed dosing
modules on the vehicle. For the matching seal
for the relevant dosing module, see the Bosch
ESI[tronic] spare part list.
