8.6.2 Storage tank
The entire storage tank is covered by different insulating materials that protect it from adverse
weather conditions. In the event of freezing, the system itself, with a minimal solar radiation, will
defrost the water in the tank.
However, in extreme locations where extra freezing protection may be required, there are 2 possible
alternatives:
• Adding a percentage of propilene glycol to the water in the storage tank, which will vary according
to the climatic conditions of the location of the system (based on historical minimum data in the
area).
• Installing an optional electrical resistance kit, that can be set at low temperature to work as an
antifreeze protection system.

8.7 Lightning protection

According to EN 62305 1-4 OKSOL and OKSOL-SMART must not be connected to the building´s
lightning protection (country-specific guidelines must be considered). A minimum safety distance of 1
m. must be kept with respect to conductive objets that may be around the installation. The metallinc
structures for holding and fixing must be connected to the equipotential busbar of the building (and
checked by qualified and authorized electricians).

9- START-UP

The solar primary circuit is supplied filled with the amount of heat transfer fluid required for operating the
system.
If the water tank has been filled according to instructions at the time of installation, the system starts
automatically. If a tarpaulin has been used to cover the unit, this tarpaulin must be removed after filling the
tank.
Check that the shut-off valves are open.
Check that the pump is working (as long as there is a minimum amount of radiation it will vibrate slightly).
Warning
The temperature of the heat transfer fluid and the solar primary circuit elements
may be so high. The unit may only be operated safely when the temperature of the
collector is not that high to create any danger. Only operate with the system if it is
covered or under a low solar radiation (day with high cloud cover).
The domestic hot water temperature from the OKSOL can be regulated with a thermostatic mixing
valve (that must be according to EN 15092 and EN 1490) fitted by the installer. It is recommended the
temperature to be set at between 40-50 ° C.
After commissioning, the installer shall describe the characteristics of the installation and operation of the
unit to users, as well as maintenance periods and shall also provide them with documentation (user manual).

10. EXTERNAL MAINTENANCE

A solar unit must be regularly maintained depending on its location, use, type of water, etc. Consult your
local installer.
