with a light ash (approximately 20 minutes) prior to closing door and
placing dome lid on smoker. This will allow charcoal lighting fluid to burn
off. Failure to do this could trap fumes from charcoal lighting fluid in
smoker and may result in a flash-fire or explosion when door is opened or
dome lid is removed.
• Never use charcoal that has been pre-treated with lighter fluid. Use only
high grade plain charcoal or charcoal/wood mixture.
• Never place more than 1.1 kg of charcoal inside the smoker.
• Always ensure that all parts are securely fastened.
• NEVER add charcoal starter fluid to hot or warm coals! Flare up could
occur and cause burns.
• ALWAYS store charcoal starter fluid safely away from smoker.
SMOKER USE SAFETY
• DO NOT use the smoker in windy conditions.
• NEVER leave a hot smoker unattended.
• Smoker is hot when in use. To avoid burns:
- Never move smoker when it is in use or when water bowl contains
hot liquids.
- ALWAYS wear protective gloves or oven mitts.
- DO NOT TOUCH any hot smoker surfaces.
• DO NOT wear loose clothing or allow hair to come in contact with smoker.
• NEVER add pre-soaked charcoal to hot or warm coals or ashes! Dangerous
or explosive flare ups could occur and result in bodily harm.
• AVOID INJURY! ALWAYS wear oven mitts or grilling gloves when lifting the
lid, adjusting the grates, the air vent knob, or in any other way touching
the smoker while it is hot.
• Lid is heavy, and will be very hot during and after use.
• Removable lid: NEVER set hot lid on grass, furniture, deck or combustible
materials.
• Hinged lid: ALWAYS open lid completely and secure to prevent
unexpected closing.
• Water bowl should always be used when smoking. Do not allow liquid
in water bowl to completely evaporate. Check water bowl every 2 hours
and add water if level is low (a sizzling sound may indicate a need for
water). Follow instructions in "Adding Water During Cooking" section of
this manual.
• Always keep water in water bowl even after food is removed from smoker.
