Connect the black wire to the empty coil terminal
that is marked with a piece of tape. (Former brea-
ker wire terminal)
1937 - 1948
The rotor must be assembled prior to installation.
Note the position of slots and screws.
Torque for M3: 0.6 Nm.
Assemble the rotor (M3 screws about in the midd-
le of the oblong holes) and fix it onto the breaker
cam. The screw heads must be level with the top
of the module. Fix the set screw with the provided
socket wrench. Do not tighten overly!
Check rotor to module air gap. Target value is
<1.0mm. Small air gap corrections can be perfor-
med by loosening and retightening the module
mounting screws. The rotor must turn freely. It
may be necessary to enlarge the screw holes in the
module base plate to achieve proper air gap. Drill
slowly without producing any heat. Be careful: you
are drilling close to electronic parts!
This is the way the timer should look like.

1949 - 1960
Fix the timer base at full advance for the moment
being by either installing the advance/retard wire
and simultaneously fixing the grip spiral (e.g. by
means of a threaded hole and a set screw), or
using a Bates Timer Lock (look up W&W catalog
for art.n°). With a Bates Timer Lock it's likewise re-
commended keeping the grip spiral from turning
by means of a small modification.
Adjust ignition timing:
Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder heads,
but leave connected to the spark plug wires and
check for good spark plug ground (cooling fins
etc.). This way the engine can be cranked easily
and the spark is able to occur in the used manner.
Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
Turn the ignition switch to the „ON" position. Pos-
sibly, the red LED on the module is already lit now.
If not so, crank the flywheels slowly over by me-
ans of the kickstarter. The red LED will be lit inter-
mittedly while the kickstarter is operated (module
function control).
Check the flywheel mark for the respective engi-
ne model. Ignition must be timed to occur on the
front cylinder compression stroke, with the spiral
grip pulled fully backwards.
Crank the engine over with the kickstarter until the
front cylinder has reached compression stroke.
Slowly keep on cranking until the correct flywheel
mark is positioned at the right place in the timing
hole. This position depends on engine model. SV/
Sportster: line mark in the center of the timing
hole, OHV Big Twins: line mark just showing up on
the rear of the timing hole. The red LED must light
up just when the flywheel reaches the described
positions. Adjust timing by loosening the advance
post (1949→) or of the adjustment strap (→1948),
thereby rotating the timer base to the correct po-
sition.
Repeat the procedure a couple of times to make
sure timing is correct and retighten the adjust-
ment screw or strap. Observe: NEVER move the
flywheels back- and forwards, as the timing gear
