OIL FILL CAP & DIPSTICk
Engine oil level can be checked and oil added through the oil fill.
NOTE: This unit was shipped WITHOUT oil in the engine. Oil is
included in the plastic bag packed with the manual in with the unit.
Add the oil as directed in the Gas & Oil Fill Up section. Check the oil
level before each operation to ensure adequate oil is in the engine.
For further instructions, refer to the steps in the Engine Maintenance
section of this manual.
SHIFT LEVER/SHIFT LEVER INDICATOR
BRACkET
The shift lever is located on the handle assembly. It is used to select
NEUTRAL, REVERSE, or one of the three FORWARD modes by
pulling up or pushing down on the shift lever and placing the shift lever
indicator bracket in the desired position.

WHEEL DRIVE
The gear positions are:
Wheels Forward (No Tine Action)
the tines are stationary.
Wheels Forward/Tines Reverse
and the tines rotate in reverse (backwards). This gear setting is for
ground-breaking tilling and hard soil.
Wheel Forward/Tines Forward
tines move forward. This gear setting is for cultivating and tilling soft soil.
Neutral
— All movement (wheels and tines) is stopped. This gear
is for starting and pushing the tiller.
Reverse
— The wheels move in reverse, but the tines are stationary.
CLUTCH LEVER
The clutch lever is located on the left handle. Squeezing the clutch lever
against the handle engages the wheel and the drive mechanisms.
DEPTH STAkE
This lever controls the tilling depth of the tines. Pull the cotter pin out
from the clevis pin to adjust the tilling depth to five different settings.
SWINg LEVER
The steering handle can be swivelled in either direction. This enables
the tiller to be guided to the next row. Release the steering handle
by pulling up on the swing lever. Swivel the handle into the desired
position and release the handle to lock into place.
HANDLE ADjUSTMENT LOCk
The handle may be adjusted to the height desired by unlocking the
Handle Adjustment Lock, then moving the handle bars to the desired
position and then re-locking the Handle Adjustment Lock. The handle
should be adjusted so that when the tiller is digging 3 to 4 inches into
the soil, the handle falls to about waist-high.

REAR TINE SHIELD
The rear tine shield protects the operator from flying debris while also
smoothing out freshly tilled soil.
SIDE SHIELD
The side shield is used to maintain clear even rows and may be
adjusted to one of five different positions.
TINES
Your tiller's tines are a series of blades arranged on a revolving
power-driven shaft.
gAS AND OIL FILL-UP
Oil
(one bottle shipped with unit)
First Time Use
1.
Remove oil fill dipstick.
2.
With the tiller on level ground, use a funnel to empty entire
R
contents of oil bottle provided into the engine.
E
3.
Replace oil fill dipstick and tighten.
Subsequent Uses
V
Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API service classifica-
E
tion SF, or SG. Select the oil's SAE viscosity grade according to the
R
expected operating temperature. Follow the chart below.

(ºC)
(ºF)
Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30, etc.) improve starting
in cold weather, they will result in increased oil consumption when
used above 32°F. Check your engine oil level more frequently to avoid
possible engine damage from running low on oil.
1.
Check the oil level making certain not to rub the dipstick along
the inside walls of the oil fill tube. This would result in a false
dipstick reading. Wipe dipstick clean with cloth. Replace dipstick
into the oil filler neck, but do not screw it in. Remove and check
oil level. Refill to FULL mark on dipstick, if necessary. Capacity is
approximately 20 oz. Overfilling will cause the engine to smoke
profusely and will result in poor engine performance.
2.
Replace oil fill dipstick and tighten.
3.
Keep oil level at FULL. Running the engine with too little oil can
result in permanent engine damage.
