Note
The plugs -1- are designed such that they can only be plugged into the connector sockets on the control unit -3- in
one position.
Plug the sensor connector plugs -1- according to their numbering into the associated sockets "1" to "4" on the
control unit -3-, until you feel them click into position.
Push the power supply wiring harness connector plug -2- into the associated socket on the control unit -3-, until
you feel it click into position.
Plug the buzzer connector plug -4- into the associated "BUZ" socket on the control unit -3-, until you feel it click into
position.

Use a suitable cleaning agent, e.g. industrial alcohol, to degrease the fitting site for the control unit -1- (in the
luggage compartment on the right).
Use the supplied double-sided adhesive tape to mount the control unit -1- in the luggage compartment.
Cut the black / blue wire to the black connector plug PIN 4.
Crimp one end of the black / blue wire -2- in a supplied crimp connector -3-.
Crimp the free end of the black / blue wire -5- and the red single wire -4- of the power supply wiring harness
together in the crimp connector -3-.
Heat-shrink the crimp connector -3- to seal it, using the hot air blower in the -VAS 1978- wiring harness repair set.
Route the power supply wiring harness from the control unit to the vehicle's earthing point -arrow-.
Connect the black lead from the power supply wiring harness (as supplied) to the car earthing point -arrow-.
Secure the power supply and sensor wiring harnesses with cable ties to the existing wires.
Carry out the parking distance control system setup.
1.5 Parking distance control system setup
Page 4 – Fig. 2
Note
◆
For vehicles that have a removable towing hitch, this must be fitted during setup.
◆
To avoid errors during setup, do not use a metal wall (e.g. a garage door) and avoid shiny white walls.
◆
Do not enter the sensor detection area -A- during setup.
To set up the parking distance control system reverse the vehicle until it is 50 cm from a wall.
Switch off the engine.
Switch on the ignition and engage the reverse gear.
The control unit signals the start of the learning process with a double beep.
If there is no beep after engaging reverse gear, carry out troubleshooting.
1.6 Setup Troubleshooting
A single, drawn-out tone must sound within a maximum of 100 seconds - this tone confirms that the learning
process has been completed successfully.
If the learning process is not confirmed as complete by the single, drawn-out tone within 100 seconds, you must
carry out troubleshooting.
1.6 Setup Troubleshooting
After audible confirmation of the successfully completed learning process and switching the ignition off, cut
through the blue single wire from the power supply wiring harness.
Insulate the ends of the cut single wire.
This ends the setup process.
Check the parking distance control system functions using the enclosed operating instructions.
If all of the parking distance control system functions are working correctly, complete the final installation.
1.7 Final installation
If you establish malfunctions with the parking distance control system, carry out troubleshooting and then
setup again.
1.6 Setup Troubleshooting
Note
Setup can be carried out again after the cut blue single wire is reconnected.
