The following maintenance intervals are examples and apply for normal
operating conditions. Actual use and your experience will determine the fre‐
quency of required inspection and maintenance.

Inspecting and Maintaining the
Hedge Trimmer
WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury from unin‐
tended activation, remove the battery before
inspecting the hedge trimmer or carrying out
any maintenance,

manual. There are no user-authorized repairs.
STIHL recommends that repair work be per‐
formed by authorized STIHL servicing dealers.
To properly maintain the hedge trimmer:
► Lubricate the gearbox.
► Sharpen the cutting blades.
► Have worn or damaged cutting blades
replaced by an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer.
► Have worn, missing or damaged safety labels
replaced by an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer.
If you make a warranty claim for a component
that has not been serviced or maintained prop‐
erly, coverage may be denied.

Lubricating the Gearbox
To lubricate the gearbox:

► Remove the screw plug (1).
► If no grease can be seen on the inside of the
screw plug, screw the tube (2) of STIHL gear
lubricant into the filler hole.

► Squeeze no more than 0.2 oz. (5 g) of STIHL
gear lubricant into the gearbox.
► Remove the tube of STIHL gear lubricant.
► Insert the screw plug and tighten it.
NOTICE
■ Do not completely fill the gearbox with grease.

cutting blades sharpened by an authorized
STIHL servicing dealer.
Although it is best to have the cutting blades
sharpened by a dealer on a workshop sharp‐
ener, it is possible to use a flat crosscut sharpen‐
ing file.
Sharpen the cutting blades when cutting per‐
formance begins to deteriorate, i.e., blades fre‐
quently snag on branches or fail to cut material
cleanly.
