To assure the correct operating position of the machine, check:
a) the arm length of the third point for a carried machine (1, Fig.
27);
b) the position of the coupling of the first and second point for a
towed machine (Fig. 28).
Finally, it is recommended to further load the springs of the
elements which operate behind the tractor wheels and to stretch
the chains or the side tie rods of the three point attachment well,
to give stability to the machine.
3.7.4 WHEN AND HOW TO BALLAST THE FRAME
When the ground is very hard and the position springs are very
compressed there is the risk that the total strain of the springs,
raise the frame up to the point that the drilling units arms get to
the inferior end of the run. This situation makes it impossible for
the machine to follow the depression in the ground because the
drilling units no longer have downward amplitude. In this case:
a) reduce the compression of the springs.
b) or ballast the frame with 1 or 2 crop ends square rod to inert
and fix in the frame.
3.7.5 SEED PRESS WHEEL ADJUSTMENT
The purpose of the press wheel, thanks to its spring load system
is toclose the seeding furrow right after the seed has been placed
this operation may vary according to different tactor such as:
-
type of soil (light, compacted, huthd or dry)
-
amount and rind of residues on the ground
-
seeding speed, etc.
therefore the down pressure must be registered carefully. The
action of the press wheel may be adjusted as follows (Fig. 29):
A) modifying the tension of the spring (1).
B) modifying the space between the wheel and the seeding
furrow by changing the position of the spacer (2).
If necessary, adjust the backlash of the rear seed covering
wheel periodically by carrying out the following operations (Fig.
29):
C) loosen the lock nuts (3);
D) carefully tighten the screws (4) by checking the backlash of
the rear seed covering wheel;
E) tighten the previously loosened lock nuts (3).
