Service Air Cleaner
Your engine will not run properly and may be damaged if you
run it with a dirty air cleaner.
Clean the air cleaner once every 50 hours of operation or
3 months, whichever comes first. Service more often if
operating under dirty or dusty conditions. Replace the paper
filter element once every 300 hours or once a year,
whichever comes first. Replacements are available at your
local Sears service center.
To service the air cleaner, follow these steps:
1. Remove wing nut (A) from air cleaner cover (B), and
remove cover.

2. Remove wing nut (C) from air filter (D), and remove
filter.
3. Remove foam filter (E) from paper filter.

Inspect both air filter elements. Replace if damaged.
5. Clean paper air filter element by tapping filter on a hard
surface to remove dirt, or blow compressed air (not
exceeding 30 psi) through filter element from inside.
IMPORTANT: NEVER try to brush off dirt; brushing will force
dirt into fibers.
6. Clean foam air filter element in warm soapy water, rinse
and allow to dry thoroughly. Or clean in nonflammable
solvent and allow to dry. Dip foam filter element in clean
engine oil, then squeeze out all excess oil.
IMPORTANT: Engine will smoke when started if too much oil
is left in foam.

7. Using a moist rag, wipe dirt from inside of air cleaner

Check and adjust the spark plug every 100 hours of
