When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the
following:
•
Read all instructions before use.
•
Close supervision is necessary when any Pressure Canner is used near children.
•
Allow the Pressure Canner to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning.
•
This Pressure Canner is not intended for the use by people (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless
they have been given supervision or instructions concerning the use of the Pressure Canner by
a person responsible for their safety.
•
The use of attachments not recommended by the Pressure Canner manufacturer may cause fire or
injuries.
•
Do not use the Pressure Canner on an outdoor LP gas burner or gas range over 12,000 BTU's.
•
Do not use this Pressure Canner for anything other than its intended use.
•
Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
•
Do not place in a heated oven.
•
Extreme caution must be used when moving a Pressure Canner containing hot liquids.
•
This Pressure Canner cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in a scalding injury. Make
sure the unit is properly closed before operating.
•
Do not fill the unit over two thirds full. When cooking foods that expand during cooking such as
rice or dried vegetables, do not fill the unit over one-third full. Over filling may cause a risk of
clogging the vent pipe and developing excess pressure.
•
Be aware that certain foods, such as applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal or other
cereals, split peas, noodles, macaroni, rhubarb, or spaghetti can foam, froth, and sputter,
and clog the pressure release devices. These foods should not be cooked in a Pressure Canner.
•
Always make sure that the safety valve, safety lock pin and vent pipe are not blocked before
use.
•
Always make sure that the safety lock pin is in the open (pressure released) position before
attempting to open your Pressure Canner.
