Testing
The mask must be tested after each use and after each maintenance
and repair.
Test equipment and accessories: Testor R 53 400, Adapter
R 53 345, Exhalation valve plug R 53 346.
Visual inspection of speech diaphragm: See "Maintenance intervals".
Remove the speech diaphragm, see "Replacing speech diaphragm or
O-ring".
Visual inspection of exhalation valve:
Remove the protective cap from the connector.
Pull one arm outwards and remove the spring.
Grip the valve disc by the nipple and pull it out
of the guide. The valve disc and seat must be
clean and undamaged. Clean or replace if
necessary. Moisten the valve disc with water
and refit. The valve disc must slide into the guide under its own weight.
Fit the spring so that both arms engage in the sides. The spring is
marked with "L" on the left and "R" on the right and is set at an angle.
Leak test: Follow the Instructions for Use of the test equipment.
Moisten the mask sealing piece with water and fit the mask on the test
head, see "Fitting the mask". Inflate the test head until the sealing piece
fits snugly all round. Seal the mask connector with the adapter.
Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar. The mask is considered
leak-proof if the pressure change after 1 minute is no more than 1 mbar.
If not:
Testing with sealed exhalation valve: Remove the exhalation valve
disc. Insert the exhalation valve plug and clamp it in place with the
spring. Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar. If the pressure
change is less than 1 mbar after 1 minute, remove the exhalation valve,
insert a new valve disc and repeat the leak test. If not:
Underwater leak test: Immerse the test head complete with fitted
breathing mask in water. Generate an excess pressure of approx.
10 mbar and rotate the test head slowly under the water surface.
Escaping air bubbles indicate the source of the leak(s). Take the test
head and mask out of the water and seal the leak(s). Remove the
exhalation valve plug and fit the exhalation valve. Repeat the leak test.
Checking the opening pressure of the exhalation valve: When using
the Quaestor R 54 300 tester, the opening pressure must be at least
4.2 mbar with a constant flow of 10 litres per minute through the mask.
If not, replace the spring and repeat the test. When using a test device
that does not permit this constant flow, e.g. Testor or Rz 25, the
opening pressure must be at least 4.5 mbar.
After testing: Remove the adapter. Remove the mask from the test
head and dry if necessary. Fit the protective cap so that it clicks into
place.
Special maintenance and care
Replacing the mask sealing piece and visor: Remove the mask
connector. With both thumbs, turn the sealing piece forwards over the
visor at the top left or right and pull it out of the groove. Remove the
steel wire from the groove of the old sealing piece and insert it in the
groove of the new sealing piece. The connecting sleeve must be
positioned bottom centre. Moisten the groove of the visor and the bead
of the sealing piece with soapy water. Place the sealing piece on the
visor from the rear. Place the sealing piece over the top of the visor
(not in the groove) and press it into the visor groove at the bottom
centre. The centre markings of the sealing frame and visor must be
aligned. Press the sealing piece into the groove of the visor over the
right or left top corner with your thumbs. The steel wire remains in the
groove of the sealing piece. Check that the sealing piece is centred in
the groove of the visor. If necessary, align the sealing piece against the
visor, taking care not to damage the visor. When fully mounted, do not
attempt to push the sealing piece against the visor, but first press one
corner of the sealing piece out of the groove again and then adjust.
Replacing the mask connector:
Dismantling:
Remove the protective cap.
1 Lift the spring tongue with a blunt object,
e.g. seal extractor R 21 519 (only
necessary when changing the visor) and
2 First press the arm of the clasp upwards
with your thumb and then press the clasp
apart. Remove the clasp.
3 Push the mask connector inwards out of
its seat and remove it from the mask body.
Assemble the mask with the new mask connector or new mask body.
Assembling:
Check the visor. The sealing surface must be clean and undamaged.
If so, push on the clasp, so that its nosepiece clips into place. Both
arms of the clasp must be open and not engaged. Check the mask
connector. The sealing ring must be clean and undamaged and must
not be twisted. Check the seat of the inner mask. The edge of the inner
mask must fit snugly in the groove all round. Insert the mask connector
in the visor and press it firmly into its seat until the contact edge is flush
with the visor all round. Then fasten it with the clasp.
The locking hooks must engage on both sides. Push on the protective
cap so that it engages on both sides and fits flush all round. Check that
it fits securely by pressing the mask connector.
Replacing valve discs on the control valves in the inner mask: Pull
the old valve discs inwards out of their seats. Button the new valve discs
onto the pin. The inside of the valve discs must lie flat all round.
Replacing the sealing ring: First follow the instructions in "Dismantling
the mask connector". Then draw the old sealing ring out of the groove
and insert a new sealing ring. Then follow the instructions in
"Assembling the mask connector".

Replacing the speech diaphragm or O-ring:
Unscrew and remove the screwed ring with
socket key R 26 817. Turn the key round and
carefully insert it in the holes of the protective
grille. Do not damage the diaphragm foil.
Loosen the speech diaphragm by turning it and
then remove. Extract the O-ring from the
connecting piece with the sealing ring extractor
R 21 519. Check the speech diaphragm and
O-ring and replace if necessary.
Replacing the exhalation valve disc: See "Visual inspection of the
exhalation valve". Fit the protective cap, making sure that it clicks into
place.
Replacing the inhalation valve or inhalation valve disc: Lift the
inhalation valve with a blunt object or sealing ring extractor R 21 519 at
the round thread seal, and pull it out. Remove the old valve disc and fit
the new valve disc. Then press the circumference of the inhalation valve
seat complete with fitted valve disc inwards in a V-shape so that it snaps
into the mask connector and lies flush all round. The valve disc must not
be pinched. The disc must face inwards and the stems outwards.
Only use authentic Dräger parts.
Always test for leaks after servicing and/or replacing parts.
Storage
Open the harness as far as it will go (up to the pull tab). Wipe the visor
with an anti-static cloth. Pack the mask in the specially provided bag or
mask box. Store mask in a dry and dust free place without deforming it
in any way.
Storage temperature: –15 °C to 25 °C.
Keep away from direct heat and light.
Comply with DIN 7716 "Guidelines for the storage, maintenance and
cleaning of rubber products".
