Turning on the radio

Setting the UIC channel mode

The radio comes preset to use the UIC channels assigned for the United
States...If.you.are.operating.in.an.area.that.uses.Canadian.or.International.
UIC channels, you will need to change the channel mode. Press and hold the
button for two seconds to select US (U), international (I), or Canadian
MEM/UIC
(C).channel.modes.

How It Works

The.VHF550.has.three.basic.modes.of.operation:

In addition to the three main operation modes, the VHF550 also provides two
different."watch".modes.which.you.can.activate.during.any.of.the.three.basic.
modes. In the watch modes, the radio briefl y checks for activity on a specifi c
channel, then returns to its previous mode.
