Fill-flash — to take optimum
exposures of backlit scenes
In situations where a dark subject is positioned
against a bright background (i.e., person in front of
window in bright daylight), the built-in flash
automatically fires, brightening the subject with fili-
in lighting and preventing the picture from being
underexposed.
e To cancel fill-flash (i.e., to make exposure
compensation without fill-flash or if you want the
Cark-subject-against-bright-background effect),
use the Flash-Cance/ mode. For details on

e The Anytime Flash mode gives you filf-flash
literally anytime you want it, regardless of the
subject's brightness. See page 59
