Inserting the Bobbin Case Top Section
1. Hold on to the bobbin case top section 40 complete with
bobbin by the free thread end.
2. Fit on to pin 48.
3. Close flaps 39.
Adjusting stitch length
Forward sewing:
1. Set desired stitch length by means of stitch regulator 9 on
scale 8 (from zero on down) and hold lever in this position.
2. Turn wing nut 6 to the left.
3. Turn screw 7 clockwise as far as possible.
4. Secure by turning swing nut 6 to the right.
5. Release stitch regulator lever.
Reverse sewing at equally long stitch
Move stitch regulator up above zero til it stops, hold there as
long as sewing in reverse.
Adjusting presser foot pressure
Check fig. 11 and 12 and make sure which type of machine
you have, then proceed as follows:
1. Type corresponding to fig. 11 at left
more pressure =
turn screw 56 to the right (clockwise)
less pressure
= turn screw anticlockwise
2. Type corresponding to fig. 11 at right
more pressure =
turn screw 56 to the right (clockwise)
turn screw 57 to the right (clockwise)
less pressure
=
turn screw 56 anticlockwise
turn screw 57 anticlockwise
3. Type corresponding to fig. 12 on top
more pressure =
loosen nut 58
turn screw 59 to the right (clockwise)
tighten nut 58
less pressure
=
loosen nut 58
turn screw 59 anticlockwise
tighten nut 58
4. Type corresponding to fig. 12 at bottom
more pressure =
loosen nut 58
= turn screw 59 anticlockwise
tighten nut 58
less pressure
=
loosen nut 58
turn screw 59 to the right (clockwise)
tighten nut 58
Adjusting stroke of alternating feet
On all sub-classes with compound feed (bottom, needle and
upper feed) proceed as follows:
1. Adjust the stroke according to the material thickness. The
foot is to lift off the material not more than required for
letting the material move freely under the lifted foot.
2. Loosen screw 60, fig. 13.
3. Move connecting rod in slide 61:
down
=
for less stroke
up
=
for higher stroke.
4. Tighten screw 60.
Preparation for Operation and Sewing (Straight stitch sewing)
1. The voltage on the current meter should coincide with the
ratings on the motor plate.
2. Connect power supply plug to the mains.
3. Switch on the motor by means of the switch 49, fig. 2.
4. Pull up the bobbin thread (holding on to the needle
thread and turning the handwheel towards yourself by
one rotation).
5.
Raise the presser foot.
6. Place both threads towards the rear underneath the presser
foot.
7. Place the sewing material underneath the presser foot and
lower the foot.
8.
Depress the pedal. The machine will now sew. The further
the pedal is, depressed, the faster the machine will operate.
9. Check the direction of rotation of the machine. The hand-
wheel should rotate towards the operator.
10. Allow the machine to run without any material only with
the presser foot raised.'
11. After sewing, switch off the motor by means of the switch
48, fig. 2.
Changing the Thread Tension
1. Check seam along a short length.
2. Fig. 10
above
=
correct thread looping.
centre =
excessive needle thread tension (or insufficient
bobbin thread tension).
below =
insufficient needle thread tension (or excessive
bobbin thread tension).
3. Set needle thread tension by means of tensioning nut 50,
fig. 6:
for increased tension turn nut 50 in a clockwise direction,
for reduced tension turn nut in an anti-clockwise direction.
4. If
possible, avoid adjusting the bobbin thread tension.
Should it become necessary, however, do so by means of
screw 51, fig. 9:
for increased tension turn screw 51 in a clockwise direction
for reduced tension turn screw in an anti-clockwise direction.
Cleaning and Oiling
1. After continued operation or protracted standstill periods
the machine should be cleaned and oiled.
2. Before oiling, apply a small amount of paraffin to the points
mentioned.
3. Allow machine to run for a short while with the foot raised.
4. Remove any dirt and oil the machine.
Cleaning the Hook
1. If possible, this work should be carried out by a sewing
machine mechanic.
2. If a jammed thread end cannot be removed by moving the
hook to and fro, proceed as follows:
3. Remove the needle.
4. Open bed plate 10, fig. 1.
5. Unscrew throat plate 11.
6. Remove bobbin case top section 40, fig. 9.
7. Slacken the three cover ring setscrew 52, remove cover
ring 53.
8. Rotate handwheel until the lug 54 is positioned just in
front of this guide nut (on the inside of the hook point).
9. In this position remove the bobbin case bottom section.
10. Remove any dirt or fluff from the hook and its components.
11. On reassembly moisten all moving surfaces with a cloth
dipped in oil.
12. It is essential that the lug 54 of the bobbin case bottom
section engages in the tension unit of the throat plate
bottom face.
13. Check screws for correct fit. The bobbin case bottom
section should be able to move freely in the hook.
Silp Clutch
The purpose of the slip clutch is to take up any impacts occur¬
ring during stiff operation and to protect the components
against breakage. At the same time it prevents any forcible
displacement of the hook.
1. Remove obstacle.
2. Hold on to hook.
3. Rotate handwheel until the clutch re-engages.
The explanation on the preceding pages apply to all subclasses
of the Adler 67, 167.
Any differences in the operation of the various sub-classes are
explained in an Appendix to these instructions.
It's advisable to remember the sub-classes mentioned on the
invoice and, if necessary, to look then up in the supplemen¬
tary instructions.
