3. Mounting
3.1 General mounting specification
The Fi h Wheels used on semi-trailers, such as "Bitrens", are fixed
directly to the chassis, as it has a more rigid structure. On the other
hand, Fi h Wheels used on tractor vehicles cannot be fixed directly
to the chassis; a Fi h Wheel fixing moun ng plate must be used to
reinforce the chassis and ensure greater rigidity.
The specific instruc ons for moun ng the Fi h Wheel are
described in chapter 3.3 (tractor vehicles) and chapter 3.4 (semi-
trailers) of this manual.
It is recommended to use shims welded longitudinally and
transversely to the Fi h Wheel pedestals (2) and longitudinally to
the moun ng plate support (1). The welding recommenda ons
specified by the vehicle and Fi h Wheel moun ng plate
manufacturer must be followed. The use of welded shims increases
the support of the Fi h Wheel, thus ensuring and maintaining the
correct ghtening torque for the fixing bolts.
In general, around the bolt fixing area, the thickness of the paint
coa ng should not exceed 170 μm per component. Fastening must
be carried out using components (bolts, nuts, etc.) that guarantee
and maintain the specified torque.
FIFTH WHEEL JSK 38CXS & JSK 38CXW
1
The semi-trailer must move freely on the Fi h Wheel, without
interference with the Fi h Wheel moun ng plate or components of
the tractor vehicle.
For assemblies other than those specified, the tractor vehicle
manufacturer's instruc ons must be observed.
