5. Servicing
5.3 Checking the wear on the locking mechanism
Depending on the condi ons of the applica on, Fi h Wheels and King
Pins may present more or less wear, which can be no ced by the play
between the tractor vehicle and the semi-trailer. Excessive clearance
can be perceived by the driver through "knocking" transferred from the
semi-trailer to the tractor vehicle, accelera ng wear on the
components of the Fi h Wheel and King Pin.
To extend its life, the JOST's Fi h Wheels have a manual adjustment of
the locking system (see chapter 5.5). However, the wear limit of the
locking components and King Pin should be checked in accordance with
the periodic servicing table in chapter 8.
Wear on the King Pin, wear ring and locking jaw above the maximum
limit must not be compensated by manually adjus ng the locking
system.
The figures for the 3.½" King Pin, locking jaw and wear ring are shown
alongside, indica ng the maximum wear limits and dimensions of the
components when new.
If the components reach the maximum wear dimensions, they must be
replaced. A er replacing any of these components, the locking system
must be manually adjusted (chapter 5.5).
