8. USER SECTION: OPERATION
8.12 Frost protection
All recipes
The frost protection inside the PdC is activated at the factory, as shown in
ch. 5. The intervention thresholds of this protection are not modifiable and
can be extremely cautious, leaving the circulator running for hours. For this
reason, additional, smarter anti-freeze protection has been introduced inside
the SMART-MT.
To make the anti-freeze protection of the SMART-MT operational, it is neces-
sary to deactivate the one inside the PdC, moving the dip switch no. 1 to Off.

The anti-freeze protection of the SMART-MT acts on the activation of the
circulator (1st level) and the compressor (2nd level), according to the fol-
lowing intervention thresholds:
- If the external temperature drops below the threshold set in Parameter
C801, the circulator is activated for 30 sec every 30 min.
- If the inlet/outlet water temperature of the PdC drops below the
threshold set in Parameter C802, the circulator is activated until the
temperature rises above this threshold of differential C804.
- If the inlet/outlet water temperature of the PdC drops below the thresh-
old set in Parameter C803, in addition to the circulator, the compressor
is also activated, to heat the water until the temperature rises above
this threshold of the C804 differential.
The activation status of the 1st level of frost protection is visible in
Parameter L241. In addition, icon no. 6 lights up on the SMART-MT.
The activation status of the 2nd level of frost protection is visible in Para-
meter L242. In addition, on the SMART-MT icon no. 6 becomes intermit-
tent.
Note: The frost protection in the SMART-MT controller is effective as long
as there is power supply to the heat pump and water circulation within the
hydraulic circuit is guaranteed.
To change the frost protection activation thresholds, contact your authori-
zed service centre.

8.13 External air temperature sensor
All recipes
For a correct adjustment of the temperature of the water leaving the
heat pump it is important that the measured value of the external air tem-
perature is significant.
The heat pump is equipped with the "External air temperature" sensor lo-
cated on the opposite side of the fan, near the finned package heat exchan-
ger.
If this positioning is not significant, another remote probe can be con-
nected to the unit. It is therefore necessary to:
1) Purchase the accessory (External air temperature probe (code 07245231)
2) Connect the new probe to the External Temp input. (A+, A-)
of the Terminal Block PCB.
3) Move the switch "SW5" of the Terminal Block PCB from 1 to 2.
Note: the maximum INSTALLATION distance of the probe is 20 m
8.14 Water flow rate
Recipes 2, 10 and 13
The water flow rate is visible on Parameter L301.
If the water flow rate falls below the minimum prescribed safety value, the
AL09 low flow rate alarm is activated. This alarm inhibits the operation of
the compressor and the circulator is activated for 5 minutes every half hour
to check if the alarm has returned.
NOTE:
(From SW version 4.10)
In cases where the service centre verifies that the low flow Alarm is due to
a meter malfunction, it is possible to ignore the alarm by setting Parameter
C410=0. In this way, the Alarm remains active, but the HP operates normal-
ly. Once the alarm has been reset, return C401=10.
8.14.1 Pulsed outlet water flow meter
Recipes 2, 10 and 13
The input 102 (E+ / E-) of the TERMINAL BLOCK PCB is configured to con-
nect the pulsed output of the water flow meter.
* NOTE:
With recipe 2, if inlet 102 (E+ / E-) is bridged, a fixed flow rate of 350l/h
is shown.
