PHOTO 81: Make up the samson posts (101) with their cross-rods (100). Make a 1 mm diameter hole in the bottom of each one
and then insert them into the holes in the deck and glue them into place. Glue lengths of the strip (103) into the capstan (102)
and use a file to give them shape. Now glue the capstan into place as shown in Plan No. 2.
PHOTO 82: Now make up the helm assembly and glue it into place, using Plan No. 2 as a guideline. Before attaching it to the
deck make 2 mm diameter holes on both sides, through which the rope can later be passed.
PHOTO 83: Make up the gun carriages, using the parts (108 & 109) and then paint them red. Then make up and attach the
wheels and axles using the parts (110, 111 & 112).
PHOTO 84: Glue the columns (114) into place, aligned as in the photo and the plans. Now glue the gun barrels (113) into place
on the carriages and fix them in place on the deck.
PHOTO 85: Paint and glue the angle plates (115) into place to support the bell assembly, as shown. Distribute the balusters
(116) on both sides of the bell assembly and then glue the handrail (117) on top of them. Now glue the chimney (118) into place,
along with and the three balusters (90) and the pin rack, after first making the 1 mm diameter holes in it, as shown. Finally
decorate it with the finishing pieces "A" and "K". Now cut to shape and glue into place the side pin racks (120).
PHOTO 86: Glue five balusters (90) into place, along with the pin rack (122), and onto the pin rack the finishing pieces "A" and
"K". Now align the balusters (116) and glue the handrail (121) on top of them.
PHOTO 87: Fit the rest of the side pin racks (120) into place, as shown in Plan No. 2. Paint the samson posts (123) and fit their
cross-rods (100) into place. Attach the posts to the deck using the pins "A".
PHOTO 88: Make up the ladders using the uprights (124 & 125). Cut the rungs to the required size from the strips (126 & 127).
Once you have made up the ladders cut into the indicated lengths for each hatch, see Plan No. 2. Use fast-drying glue.
PHOTOS 89 & 90: Make up the gun carriages as shown and paint them red. Add the ropes (131), the eyebolts "B " and the gun
barrels (130).
PHOTO 91: Fix the guns to the bulwarks using the eyebolts "B". Fix the parts "B" and "H" in place as shown in the photo and in
Plan No. 2.
PHOTO 92: Insert pins "I", painted black, into all of the pin racks. Attach a rope (131) to serve as the tiller rope. Now glue six
balusters (90), along with their hand-rope (131) using the eyebolts "B". Make up a ladder using the parts (124, 125 & 126) and fit
it into place.
PHOTO 93: Make the necessary holes in the backs of the gun ports so that the gun barrel ends (133) can be pinned into place.
Glue the channels (134, 149 & 150), see Plan No. 2 into place as shown and make the necessary holes for the chain plates.
Using 0.5 mm diameter brass wire make up the chain plates (132) which hold the clump blocks "G". Attach the chain plates to
the hull using pins "A". Cut the rings (135) from a 4 mm diameter rod and glue them to the sides of the bulwarks.
PHOTO 94: Make up the structures for the side railings using the parts (136, 137 & 138). Use the photos and Plan No. 2 as a
guide.
PHOTOS 95 & 96: Now make up 14 brass parts (139) as shown in the photo. Glue the strips (140) onto both sides. Now glue
these assemblies into place on both sides of the hull, above the channels.
PHOTOS 97 – 99: Cut two strips of cloth to size and fold it over twice. Then fold it, as shown in the photo so that it fits into the
rack assemblies that you made in the previous steps, 95 and 96. Insert the folded cloths and fix them in place.
PHOTO 100: Make up the boarding ladders on both sides of the hull. Use the strips (142), for the supports, and (143) for the
rungs.
PHOTO 101: Fit the stocks (146) onto the anchors (144) and then insert the rings "J". Tie off lengths of the rope (145) to the
rings attached to the ends of the anchors. Finally tie off a block "E" using a sling "C".
PHOTO 102: Now attach the anchors using a rope (147), which is run through the block attached to the anchor and the holes in
the davit. Then tie them off with the trope (148) to the samson posts on the bulwarks. Pass the anchor rope (145) through the
hawse hole (71).
PHOTO 103: Attach the rest of the cleats (95) to the inboard sides of the bulwarks. Place the eyebolts "B" at the foot of the
corresponding pin rack, see Plan No. 2.
PHOTO 104: In the centre of the deck, and also at the stern, attach the necessary eyebolts and rings, see Plan No. 2.
Attach the cleats (95) to the stern. At the end of the bulwarks on both sides attach a block "D", held in place by an eyebolt "B"
and a sling "C".
PHOTO 105: Attach the eyebolts "B" as shown and hang from them the chains (151) on both sides of the rudder blade.
PHOTO 106: Line the stern transom with the lining planks (152). Make up the transom frame using the parts (153 & 154) and
then varnish the parts that you have just added.
PHOTO 107: Before gluing the transom windows (155) into place pain the area that they cover black, to give the sensation of
depth. Make up the lantern assembly using the parts (156-159) and glue it into place on the stern, having first drilled a hole to
that end.
PHOTO 108: Paint the launches (160 & 163) dark brown and incorporate the corresponding parts. Leave a 4 mm gap between
the two chocks (162) so that the other launch can be fitted into place.
PHOTO 109: Now fit the beams (166) and the chocks (165) into place on the deck, using Plan No. 2 as a guide. Attach the
eyebolts required to secure the launches and then tie them off using the rope (167). One end of the rope is first tied off to an
eyebolt and it is then criss-crossed over the launches and finally tied off again to that first eyebolt.
PHOTO 110: Attach the figurehead (168) to the stem post, as shown in the photo, also see Plan No. 2.
PHOTO 111: Fit a mast-hole ring (169) centred over the mast-hole in the deck. Attach blocks "D" to the eyebolts inserted into
the deck, tied off with slings "C".
