5. Maintenance
z Please note that the front wheel brake is
less effective when wet.
z Avoid sudden, strong front wheel braking.
Vbrakes in particular have very high brak
ing performance that could suddenly change
the behaviour of the bike and result in a fall.
z For long downhill stretches avoid using the
back pedal brake for a long time (this heats
up the back pedal break hub too much).
z If the brake lever can be pulled by more
than half of its path to the handlebars, it
should be adjusted.
z The braking surfaces must be clean and
free of grease, and the brake covers must
be parallel to each other.
z Worn covers must be exchanged immediate
ly! When exchanging them ensure that they
use original covers or at the least that they
match the rim material (e.g. the "Alloy / Alu"
marking for aluminium rims).
Be aware of rim wear and tear
Regularly check the status of the rims and pay
particular attention to the rotary wear slot.
Contact your specialist workshop in good time
(when you can still see the slot a little). Risk of
breakage and injury!
Pay special attention that the handlebar
and the saddle are secure and cannot be
rotated!
Check the chain tension and tighten the chain
if necessary (by undoing the rear wheel, align
ing and securing the wheel again).
User Manual
Check the tire pressure (the prescribed
pressure is indicated on the sides of the tires).
Damaged or deformed parts must not be
repaired, but must be replaced immediately.
Original spare parts can be obtained via
your Puky dealer.
Wear parts: Tires (incl. inner tubes), wheels,
brake cable, brake block linings, chain, sprock
ets, handlebar grips.
All maintenance work requires expert knowl
edge, so please consult your local bicycle
shop. This is not something that should be
done by children. However, interested chil
dren's eyes are welcome.
Good cleaning keeps corrosion away
(rust protection). All painted and chromeplated
parts can be cleaned and preserved using
commercially available car maintenance prod
ucts. Only use environmentally friendly prod
ucts and never use any aggressive detergents.
Regularly lubricate the chain (chain oil or uni
versal oil) and clean it if necessary.
Note: the sides of the rims (brake surfaces)
must be kept free from grease!
The adjustment and lubrication of the wheel
hubs and ball bearings must be checked by a
professional from time to time. The bike must
be protected against salt sprinkled on the
roads in winter. Avoid the bike being stored in
moist rooms (such as a garage) for a long
period.
Note!
Do not use a highpressure cleaner or steam
jet to clean the bike.
