2.4. Using the deep freezer inserts
For tube sizes ⅛" (10, 12 mm), 1¼" (42 mm), 1½", 54 mm, 2" (60 mm) deep-
freezer inserts (accessories) are required (Figure 1). The latter are placed in
the deep- freezer heads. Each application can be seen in the table (Fig. 3).
Fasten deep-freezer heads with deep-freezer inserts to the tube with the
tightening strap (Figure 2). Shortest freezing times will be achieved when the
hose connector at the deep-freezer head is pointing upwards.
3. Operation
Turn the apparatus on only if the deep-freezer heads have been mounted. For
improving refrigeration transfer from the deep freezer heads to the tube, during
the deep freezing process water should be sprayed between the deep freezer
head and the tube (Figure 2) several times with the water squirt bottle. Impor-
tant: Mount deep-freezer heads and apply water by spraying. When deep
freezing begins, water should be sprayed intensively in order to fi ll the gap
freezing begins
between the deep-freezer head/insert and the pipe. Spray water onto both
freezing points alternating from one to the other until a closed ice layer has
been formed. This can take up to 10 minutes for large pipes. After that no more
spraying is needed. If not followed, longer deep-freeze times apply or the pipe
does not freeze despite frost formation on the deep-freeze heads. Should this
frost formation not occur within the period given in the table, then this strongly
suggests fl owing water in the tubing or that the tube contents are hot. Where
applicable, pumps should be turned off, prevent water leakage, let water cool
off. In addition, take care that the deep- freezer heads are not subjected to solar
radiation or hot air draughts. In parti cular, air emissions from the apparatus
valves should not be allowed to blow on the deep-freezer point.
The scope of supply includes LCD digital thermometers which can be hung
onto the clamping bands and make it easier to assess the condition of the
freezing point. The thermometers are powered by a battery (button cell) which
can be changed as required.
CAUTION
CAUTION
The deep-freezer heads and the refrigerant hoses attain temperatures of
–30°C (–22°F)! Wear suitable gloves against cold temperatures!
According to the deep-freeze times indicated in the Table (Figure 3), repair
work can be done on the tubing. Before beginning repair work, check if the
tubing has depressurised. For this purpose, open any eventual let-off valves
or loosen a fastener. Do not turn apparatus off during repair process.
The deep-freeze times indicated in the table (Fig. 3) are ball-park values and
apply at an ambient/water temperature of approx. 20°C and when the refrige-
5. Behaviour in the event of faults
5.1. Fault: No icing up of the deep-freezer heads.
Cause:
● Mains lead defective.
● Deep freeze time not yet adequate.
● Apparatus defective.
5.2. Fault: No frost formation on the tube occurs.
Cause:
● Mains lead defective.
● Deep freeze time not yet adequate.
● Poor cold transition from the deep-freezer heads to the tube.
● Apparatus defective.
5.3. Fault: Despite frost formation, the tubing does not freeze up.
Cause:
● Diameter of the line to be frozen too big
● Ambient and water temperature too warm
● Water fl ow available.
● Anti-freeze in liquid to be frozen.
● Apparatus defective.

rant is applied at the highest possible position of the deep-freezer head. At
higher ambient / water temperatures, the time periods are accordingly extended.
With plastic tubing depending on the material used, substantially higher deep-
freeze times must be expected.
After completion of work, turn the apparatus off. Remove the plug and let deep-
freeze heads thaw out. Wear suitable gloves against cold temperatures. Detach
the tightening strap, deep-freezer heads and, where applicable, deep-freezer
inserts only after complete thawing in order to avoid damage to the apparatus.
Do not bend or twist hoses or subject them to tensile stress. This can lead to
leakage from the apparatus.
NOTICE
Transport the apparatus only in an upright position, never while lying fl at!

4. Maintenance
When deep
Notwithstanding the maintenance described below, it is recommended to send
in the electrical device to an authorised REMS contract customer service
workshop for inspection and periodic testing of electrical devices at least once
a year. In Germany, such periodic testing of electrical devices should be
performed in accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702 and also prescribed for
mobile electrical equipment according to the accident prevention rules DGUV,
regulation 3 "Electrical Systems and Equipment". In addition, the respective
national safety provisions, rules and regulations valid for the application site
must be considered and observed.
4.1. Maintenance
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance work! Check hoses and deep-
freezer heads for damage before every use. Do no used damaged hoses and
deep-freezer heads.
Clean plastic parts only with the REMS CleanM machine cleaner (Art. No.
140119) or a mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not use household cleaners These
often contain chemicals which can damage the plastic parts. Never use petrol,
turpentine, thinner or similar products to clean plastic parts.
Make sure that liquids never get inside the electrical device.
4.2. Inspection/Repair
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before doing maintenance work! This work may
only be performed by qualifi ed personnel.
Remedy:
● Have the mains lead changed by qualifi ed personnel or an authorised REMS
customer service workshop.
● See table (Fig. 3), ambient and water temperature, tubing material. Shut off
water. Use LCD thermometer (accessory) to assess the deep freeze point
(see 3. Operation).
● Have the apparatus checked/repaired by an authorised REMS customer
service workshop.

Remedy:
● Check whether the line to be frozen can be frozen on a smaller diameter if
available Line possibly cannot be frozen.
● Reduce ambient and water temperature Mount a second deep-freezer head
on the opposite side of the tube to be frozen if necessary.
● Shut off water.
● Check liquid, liquid can possibly not be froze.
