Maintenance
This chapter contains preventative maintenance and unscheduled maintenance for the First Step Select Therapy System,
as well as pertinent warnings. Information in this chapter should be used in conjunction with information provided in the
Troubleshooting chapter of this manual. Certain functions may require the use of a trained professional depending on
the degree of dif culty and level of knowledge or skill. Please exercise sound judgment when attempting certain complex
maintenance functions and follow all standard safety protocols.
The following warnings should be observed during all maintenance procedures:
High voltage equipment to be serviced by trained, quali ed personnel only. Dangerous voltages can present a
signi cant shock or burn hazard to personnel.
Unauthorized modi cation of the First Step Select therapy control unit could result in hazard to patient /
caregiver.
Preventative Maintenance
Preventative maintenance to be performed while unit is in use includes the following:
• Daily Cleaning - the cover sheet should be wiped daily with a mild soap and water solution. This can be done when
the patient is bathed, using the bath water.
• Weekly Cleaning - the cover sheet should be laundered at least weekly, depending on soiling. The therapy control
unit and hoses should be cleaned weekly. The air lter should be cleaned at least weekly. A clogged lter may result
in damage to the therapy control unit.
• Monthly Cleaning - the mattress or overlay should be laundered at least monthly.
Preventative maintenance to be performed after each patient use includes the following:
• Inspect mattress or overlay, cover sheets, therapy control unit lter and hoses for wear or damage. Unserviceable
items should be replaced with an identical item.
• Perform infection control procedures as de ned in the Infection Control Procedures section of the Care and
Cleaning chapter of this manual after each patient use and otherwise as outlined above.
Unscheduled Maintenance
Power must be switched off and the mains power cord unplugged prior to any maintenance procedure.
The First Step Select Therapy Control Unit is made up of several components which should not be opened, disassembled
or otherwise modi ed by the user and should be replaced as a unit. All assemblies, operations, adjustments,
modi cations, maintenance and repairs must be carried out by quali ed personnel authorized by the manufacturer.
