Electric pumps with cooling jackets can be used in dry installations with both openings (suction/delivery)
flanged to the pipe. This type of installation allows the unit to be mounted in a dry place even without ventilation.
In such cases, it is advisable to mount a sluice valve in both the supply and delivery pipes in order to work
on the electric pump without fluid escaping. There are two main installations:
1 - Electric pump with vertical rotor axis, on a support foot with flanged elbow on the suction side (fig. 4).
2 - Electric pump with horizontal rotor axis on special supports and delivery pointing upwards (fig. 5).
In both installations, there must be a space of at least 1 m from the side of the motor cover and it must be
possible to align the power supply cables of the electric pump in that direction. This will allow the cooling
jacket to be disassembled for routine maintenance operations or inspection.
When the pump is used in dry installations, it is advisable to include an alarm device to warn of flooding in
the chamber caused by breakage or leaks from the electric pump itself or from one of the wet components
in the system.
If such faults should occur, the machine is not a source of danger and will not be damaged.
The pipes must be supported near the electric pump since this latter must never be used as an
anchoring point.
The forces (F) and moments (M) transmitted by the pipes can act on the suction and discharge
parts at the same time, but must never ever exceed the maximum values given in the following
table. Axes x, y and z represent the directions of stress in relation to the carthesian system applied
to the electric pump flanges.

17. TRaNSPORT aNd STORaGE

The electric pump is very heavy. It must be handled by the indicated points
using suitable and approved tools.
aTTENTION
During transport and storage, the electric pump must always be kept on the bearing
frame or on the pump casing in a vertical position and with the cable wound around
the motor casing. This is the most stable position and protects the cable against
possible contacts or rubbing. Always check that the machine is stable in order to
prevent it from rolling or dropping since this could damage persons, property or the
electric pump itself. If the electric pump is supplied with the cooling jacket, pay
particular care when handling the machine in order to prevent damage to the jacket.
Never lift the electric pump by the powering cables. Use the handle
provided on the cover of the motor casing.
WaRNING
When the electric pump has been stored, it must be kept in a dry place at a temperature
of less than 60°C prior to being used for the first time.
WaRNING
When the electric pump is stored after a period of use, it must be thoroughly cleaned
with water and disinfected if necessary, dried and kept in a dry place at a temperature
of less than 60°C.
Before using the electric pump again, make sure that the rotor is free to turn before
making the electrical connections, that the motor's electrical insulation is undamaged and
that the oil is at the right level.
If the electric pump is stored for a long period of time, turn the rotor every so often to
prevent its seals and shims from jamming (channel impellers).
If the pump is blocked by ice, immerse it in water until it has completely thawed. Do not
opt for other, faster methods as the machine could be damaged. Make sure that the
pump is in a perfect condition and conduct the inspections described above before use.
18. PRELIMINaRY INSPEcTIONS
aTTENTION The electric pump may only be installed after a few simple inspections have been made.
1. The electric pump is supplied ready for use with the correct amount of oil. After a long period at a
standstill, check that there is the right quantity of oil in the "oil chamber" (consult the relative "OIL
CHANGE" paragraph on page 15.
2. Check that the rotor is free to turn by working on the impeller through the suction mouth.
3. Connect the powering cables to the Control Panel (see paragraph 19).
The terminals of the power cable are marked with international IEC codes. The electric pump will only turn
in the right direction if the terminals are correctly connected to the L1(u1-w2), L2(v1-u2), L3(w1-v2) line. If
the installed unit is visible during the starting phase, it will be subjected to a kick-back in an anti-clockwise
direction (see Fig. 6).
19. ELEcTRIcaL cONNEcTIONS
Make sure that the electric control panel corresponds to the national standards currently in force.
Particularly make sure that its protection degree suits the installation site. It is advisable to install the
electrical equipment in a dry place. Failing this, special versions of the equipment should be used.
aTTENTION The contacts of under-sized or poor quality electrical equipment will quickly deteriorate. This
will lead to an unbalanced power supply for the motor which could damage it. Unless correctly researched
and installed, use of Inverters and Soft-starters can damage the pumping unit. Ask for assistance from the
Caprari Technical Departments if in doubt.
Safe and reliable operation can only be ensured if good quality equipment is installed.
