Installation
Positioning the XRP Reader
Ensure that the XRP Reader is positioned so that:
it does not to interfere with animal and operator movements.
it is not exposed to direct sunlight.
it is within reach of the serial communication, power and antenna cables.
the 'Tag Read' and 'Power On' LEDs are clearly visible.
it is away from electrical equipment such as, variable speed drives, motors, transformers, switch mode power supplies, CRT monitors and TVs.

Installing the antenna

For detailed installation instructions, see the documentation provided with the antenna.
Ensure that the antenna:
is installed in an optimum position in relation to the expected tag travel and tag orientation (tag angle in respect to antenna plane)
is installed so that tags cannot enter the 'back read zone' (outside the area where you want the antenna to read tags).
is not in direct contact with metal. Metal can potentially shorten or otherwise affect the magnetic field of the antenna.
is installed so that the operator and animals can move freely around it.
is installed within cable reach of the XRP Reader (<6 m).
has sufficient clearance (>50 m) from other antennas, unless the XRP Readers are synchronised or dual antennas are being used.
is installed away from electrical equipment such as variable speed drives, motors, transformers, switch mode power supplies, CRT monitors and
TVs.
Cables
Do not route cables where they can be damaged by animals or crushed and stretched by moving parts such as gates or head-bail mechanisms. If
in doubt, place the cables inside protective hoses or piping. Secure using cable ties.
Do not route cables close to mains, motor cables and other antenna cables.
Dust caps should be screwed in place when any of the connectors are not in use.
