2. Product description

The Ants LES01 Encoder (Ants LES01) is a measuring system for safe detection of the absolute posi-
tion of elevator cabins. Ants LES01 consists of a reading device mounted on a elevator cabin and the
band (V2A stainless steel), which is clamped in the shaft and guided through the measuring system
(called sensor).
Ants LES01 is connected to an evaluation unit via a CAN interface. It evaluates the band coded by
holes and transmits the value via a CAN bus for further processing to an evaluation unit, which is com-
patible with Ants LES01 according to the protocol description in the annex (see annex).
The band (8.LEX.BA.xxxx) must be securely fastened on the upper and lower end of the shaft so that
the band cannot slip. Vertical installation must be ensured. The fixation kit (8.LES.MK.0001) fastening
system fulfils these safety requirements when mounted correctly. This fastening element is a fixed
component of the system and must not be replaced with a different fastening element.
Ants LES01 can provide the absolute position with millimetre precision with a maximum shaft height of
392 m and a speed of up to 5 m/s.
Ants LES01 must be connected to a corresponding evaluation unit that conforms to the requirements
for electrical safety equipment in accordance with EN81/20 and the protocol specifications for fulfil-
ment of various position-dependent safety functions in accordance with EN81/20 (see annex).
For safety functions: limit switches, early door opening and unintended car movement, (UCM), we
recommend the PSU01 (Position Supervisor Unit).

2.1 What Ants LES01 does not fulfil

The following is not provided by Ants LES01 and must be enabled by external devices:
• The detected position is not evaluated; a separate, safe evaluation device that can fulfil various
position-dependent safety functions is required for this purpose.
• In case of an error, the Ants LES01 sends error codes and no longer sends any position values.
Therefore, the transmission of a position is not guaranteed for a certain amount of time.
The omission of position data must be recognised and handled by an external evaluation unit.
• Ants LES01 does not actively intervene into the elevator system; it is purely a position encoder.
• Ants LES01 is not a measuring device intended for measuring lengths. In particular, lengths vary
because of the temperature and of other influencing factors.

2.2 Special features of the Ants LES01

• Extremely compact - suitable for tight installation spaces, that is to say elevator plants with reduced
shaft head
• The side opening enables assembly of the sensor without having to remove the band.
