The manufacturers and users of the machinery, for which SICK
protective equipment is to be used, are solely responsible for
confirming all of the applicable safety regulations and instructions
with the relevant authorities and for ensuring that these regulations
and instructions are observed.
Furthermore, the information, especially inspection regulations
(see Chapter 6 Commissioning and Section 11.4 Checklist), given
in these operating instructions (e.g. concerning usage, mounting,
installation, or incorporation in the machine control unit) must
always be observed and complied with.
The inspections must be performed by trained specialists or by
authorised company employees and documented clearly and in
detail.
The operating instructions supplied by SICK must be made available
to the personnel operating the machine for which SICK protective
equipment is used. The operator must be instructed by a trained
specialist or authorised company employee.

Product Description
3.1

Design and mode of operation of the devices

The safety light curtain C 2000 and the multibeam photoelectric
safety switch M 2000/M 2000-Active/Passive (A/P) each have a
sender unit and a receiver unit. The light beams emitted by the sender
and received by the receiver determine a protective field defined by
the number of beams and their mutual spacing. If objects such as
parts of the body (C 2000) or people (M 2000, M 2000-A/P) intrude
into the protective field, the receiver unit stop signal halts the hazard-
ous motion.
Whereas the C 2000 unit provides a hand guard on machinery with a
resolution of between 20 mm and 40 mm, the M 2000 and M 2000-A/P
units serve as personal access guards. In addition to the sender and
receiver, the photoelectric switch M 2000-A/P uses a mirror module
which diverts the emitted light beam and reflects it to the receiver. The
