Motor protection
Some controller settings can lead to motor overheating:
– e.g. longer operation of the DC injection brake.
– Longer operation of self-ventilated motors at low speed.
Observe the following points if the motor cable is provided with a switching element:
– "Servo control" mode: With the controller enabled, a motor cable interrupted by an
external switching element can cause the overcurrent monitoring in the controller to
be activated.
– "V/f control" or "Sensorless vector control" mode: During switching operation the
motor current can increase up to the clamp limit (1.2-fold maximum device current)
for a short time.
– When switching with the controller enabled, always rate the switching element to
the max. DC-bus voltage.
Protection of the machine/system
Drives can reach dangerous overspeeds (e.g. setting high output frequencies for motors
and machines which are not suitable):
– The controllers are not protected against those operating conditions. Therefore
provide the system with additional components.
