12. Preventive maintenance
Some of the parts inside the equipment, like the heating elements or semi-conductor heat sinks are
still hot after having cut off the electrical power.
The printed circuit cards have components sensitive to static discharges. Wear a grounded wristband
when handling the cards. Do not touch the cards if not necessary. The more sensitive components
can be damaged or destroyed by static electricity.
Do not disconnect or connect any terminal while the unit is operating. Disconnect and check for
absence of voltage first. The more sensitive components can be damaged.
The main switch does not eliminate power from the cables or power terminals. Before working on the
unit, insulate the group from the external power supply.
Make a temporary ground connection before working on the unit.
Do not handle control cables when the unit receives external power. Pay special attention to the
orange colored cables.
The control circuits powered externally provoke dangerous voltages within the unit, even with the
main power disconnected.
We recommend performing the preventative maintenance tasks annually.
In general, a visual check of the covers is required, verifying the condition of the locks, doors and handles.
12.1. Condition of cables and terminals
Check the correct path of the cables so they do not come into contact with live parts.
Check the cables insulation and hot points, paying special attention to the color of the insulation and terminals.
The most critical points in the cables deterioration are the terminals and metal rings protecting them. And on the
insulation check for any bubbles or cracks on the cable's elbows.
12.2. Status of the connection terminals.
Proceed to re-tighten the connections to the terminals, to make sure there is perfect electric continuity.
12.3. Status of anti-condensation fans
Check that there is no humidity. Clean it, and if necessary, replace it.
12.4. Battery Condition
Check that the LED that indicates the proper status of the battery is lit.
Also check the battery´s voltage via a direct measurement with the proper tool. It must be within 22.5 – 29.5 V.
12.5. Status of the power analyzer
Check that the voltage, current and power readings are correct.
Also check that the PLC´s readings of the analyzer´s measurement correspond to those of the same screen.
