OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
GETTING STARTED
1.
IMPORTANT: To start, please read through steps 3 and 4 below and familiarize
yourself with the setup of the gage.
2.
Clean the bottom of the height gage and the surface plate or reference surface
being used.
Install the batteries that came with the height gage. Refer to "Battery Drawer
3.
Removal" and "Battery Replacement" on page 13.
NOTE: When the new batteries are inserted into the gage, the gage will automatically
turn on, and go through a startup sequence. See step 4 below
4.
Follow the instructions "New battery, Startup Sequence" and the "New Datum/
Zero Reference, Setup" section on page 11.
5.
The gage is now ready to measure. You can turn on the height gage with the On/
Off button or move the slide.
6.
The gage will automatically turn off (the display will go blank) after 20 minutes of
no slide movement or pressing of a button. Any movement of the slide will activate
the display with no loss of position reading.
TO ESTABLISH A ZERO REFERENCE USING AN INDICATOR
7.
Ideally an indicator should be mounted on the height gage with the proper
attachment (PN: 99454 not supplied) to use as a positioning device. A test indicator
can be used if the part configuration will allow.
8.
The reference zero position can be the surface plate itself, a gage block or a
reference surface on the product part.
9.
Loosen the lock on the gage slide and carrier, then move the slide to a position
where the indicator contact is slightly above the zero reference surface but not
touching it. Using the fine adjustment knob, move the slide until a reading is
displayed on the indicator. Move the fine adjustment until the indicator reads zero.
10. Zero the Gage by pressing the Zero/ABS button. Now when you measure parts, the
indicator will make sure that the pressure on the part being measured is always
the same.
NOTE: If using a dial indicator, be sure to count revolutions of the indicator hand. If using
a digital Indicator, depress the ZERO button to change the display to a zero position
"0.0000" (0.00mm).
