If a foreign object blocks the cut-
ting tool or if the motor is over-
loaded, release the safety handle
GB
and the motor will switch off
automatically. Remove the foreign
object if necessary.
Warning! Do not tilt the
A
lawnmower when starting
the motor. If you do need to tilt the
lawnmower for some reason while
mowing, only tilt the lawnmower
as far as necessary and always tilt
it with the cutting tool away from
you. Do not start the motor when
you are in front of the grass ejec-
tion chute.
Warning! Do not leave the
A
motor running indoors.
Danger of poisoning due a build-up
of dangerous to carbon monoxide
gas! Keep your hands and feet
away from rotating parts. Keep
away from the grass ejection chute.
8. Information Concerning Correct Mowing
General Lawn Care Information
To achieve a manicured lawn,
we recommend mowing once
a week if possible. Frequent cutting
strengthens the short stalks of grass
and makes them resistant. Short
cuttings (up to about 1 cm in length)
can be left on the ground after cut-
ting. Longer cuttings must be re-
moved to stop the lawn turning yel-
low and matting. When mowing
without the grass box the lawn-
mower ejects the cut grass cleanly
through the high rear ejection area.
Cut the lawn in spring for the first
time as soon as the grass begins to
grow and it is possible to walk on
the lawn. If the grass has grown
too long, cut in one direction first
with a high cutting height adjust-
ment and then across this at the
required cutting height.
Mowing and Aerating
When aerating (only 40 BHC) and
mowing, we recommend guiding

Stopping the Motor
You can stop the engine by releas-
ing the safety handle (Figure 3
item 2). An integrated brake stops
the cutting tool rotating within
3 seconds.
Putting the Rear Wheel Drive into
Operation
(40 BRT, 40 BRC and 46 BRC)
To engage the rear wheel drive,
pull the coupling link for the wheel
drive (Figure 4, item 3) upwards
towards the guide handle. Release
the coupling link (Figure 4, item 3)
to deactivate the wheel drive.
Warning! Do not remove or
A
bridge the safety devices
installed on this lawnmower by the
manufacturer otherwise there is
a risk of injury and the lawnmower
motor will no longer switch off
automatically.
Warning! The cutting tool
A
continues to rotate for
the lawnmower in lines which are
as straight as possible. The rows
should always overlap by a few
centimetres so that no strips are left
standing. Ensure that you cut with
sharp, perfect blades so that the
blades of grass are not shredded
and the lawn does not turn yellow.
Note:
On slopes the cutting path should
always be across the slope. The
mower can be prevented from slid-
ing down the slope by angling it
upwards. Do not mow excessively
steep slopes and be particularly
careful if you change the direction
in which you are mowing on the
slope.
Clean the underside of the mower
housing regularly. Deposits of grass
must be removed. Deposits make it
difficult to start the mower, impair
the quality of the cut and the ejec-
tion of the grass.
a short time after switching off the
motor!
Switching on the Aerator Roller
(only 40 BHC)
Figure 9
Only switch on the aerator roller
with the motor switched off.
Only switch the aerator roller on
within the cutting height range from
30 – 55 mm. The working height
of the aerator roller is set via the
cutting height adjustment (figure 4,
item 1). The care table (in. Informa-
tion Concerning Correct Mowing)
contains the various lawn care
options. The aerator roller is
switched on with the motor station-
ary by turning the rotary switch
(figure 9) to position 1. Turn the
rotary switch to position 0 to turn
the aerator roller off. The aerator
roller must be switched off when
you have finished work or when
transporting the Hattrick!
Mowing with the aerator roller
(only 40 BHC)
The Hattrick is a unique lawn-
mower in that it has an aerator
roller which can be switched on
and which removes moss and
matted grass during mowing.
The Hattrick is not a cultivator
which is used once or twice a year.
It aerates the lawn effectively by
repeated use and removes a very
great deal of moss and matted
grass in this way. The aerator
depth is adjustable and is regulat-
ed via the central cutting height
adjustment. The grass should not
be higher than approx. 50 mm
when you switch on the aerator
roller as otherwise no aeration
effect will be achieved. Moreover,
long pieces of grass can become
stuck in the aerator roller.
Use in Spring
The lawn needs air after the
winter period. If there is a large
