9. Maintenance, care, storage
Maintenance
GB
Maintenance covers all work that
keeps your lawnmower in good
working order. You can prevent
accidents and failure of parts by
checking your lawnmower regular-
ly (check that the bolted connec-
tions are secure, check for cracks
and damage) and by replacing
damaged or worn parts.
Repairs must only be carried out
by the service centres authorised
by the manufacturer or authorised
specialist dealers.
A service centre directory is sup-
plied with your lawnmower.
Warning! Always unplug
A
the spark plug connector
before carrying out all work and
repairs on your lawnmower.
Otherwise there is a risk of injury.
Check the grass catching device
regularly for wear or reduced func-
tion. Replace defective silencers.
For safety reasons, always replace
worn or damaged parts.
Never clean your lawnmower
under running water and in
particular never using a highpres-
sure water jet due to the danger
of injury to people and property.
Store your lawnmower in a dry
place that is protected from frost.
Store your lawnmower out of the
reach of children.
Do not tip the motor onto the spark
plug side / carburettor side.
Observe the notes on installation
for exchanging the blade.
Maintenance on Wheel Drive
Figure 8
(only 40 BRT, 40 BRC, 46 BRC)
The gears run without maintenance
in a sealed oil bath. The wheel
drive clutch cable can be readjust-
ed if the clutch is acting too late or
is slipping. To adjust the cable, turn
the actuating wheel clockwise from
the operator's side. To ease it, turn
24
the actuating wheel anti-clockwise
from the operator's side.
Changing the aerator roller
(only 40 BHC)
The aerator roller is subject to
wear caused by use. If the springs
become very worn, the unit is no
longer able to work in the soil. The
aerator roller must be replaced.
You can obtain a replacement
roller from your specialist dealer.

Article No. 78352)
Exchanging the Blade
Please only use original replace-
ments blades supplied by the
manufacturer. Original replace-
ment blades are available from
your specialist dealer.
(Original Brill replacement part
Article No.70002)
Never use replacement parts or
accessories not supplied by the
manufacturer.
If the cutter bar is damaged, it must
be replaced due to the associated
problems with imbalance. For safe-
ty reasons, the cutter bar must only
be replaced at the service centres
approved by the manufacturer or
by specialist dealers.
Note:
The blades have two cutting edges.
If one cutting edge becomes blunt,
the blade can be turned.
Blades with chipped edges must be
changed (out of balance).
Do not regrind blades (out of
balance) and always turn or
replace blades in pairs.
When changing the blades, always
use the new screw fittings provided
with the replacement blades.
1. Unplug the spark plug
connector!
2. Unscrew the two fixing nuts
by holding the respective bolt
firmly (figure 7).
3. Turn the blades or insert a
complete new set of blades
and screw firmly in place
(tightening torque: 25 Nm).
During installation, ensure that
the toothed washers are positioned
under the nuts and that the nuts
are at the top on the blade bar
(figure 7).
Maintenance Work on the Motor
(Please read the notes provided
by the motor manufacturer. The
original operating instructions are
supplied with your lawnmower.)
Oil Change
Warning! Always change
A
the oil when the motor is
warm, the fuel tank is empty and
closed with the fuel cap.
The oil must be changed for the
first time after 5 perating hours.
Additional oil changes are then
required every 50 operating hours.
If you do not operate your lawn-
mower for 50 hours within 1 year,
change the oil at the end of the
mowing season. To do this, open
the oil filler pipe and tilt the mower
so that the old oil can run out into
a collector. Dispose of the old oil
properly according to local regula-
tions. Stand your mower so that
it is horizontal again and fill with
motor oil 10 W 30 (see Point 4,
Putting Your Lawnmower into Oper-
ation).
Clean and Check the Spark Plug
Clean dirty spark plugs with a
brass brush and rag. Check the
electrode gap.
Specified value:
For Briggs & Stratton motor:
0.75 mm.
If the spark plug is extremely worn,
install a new spark plug.
Clean the Air Filter
Warning! The air filter must
A
be cleaned every 3 months
or after 25 operating hours,
whichever comes first. If the filter
becomes very dusty it must be
cleaned more frequently.
