The leverallowsfor adjustmentof the foreto aft positionof the

TRANSMISSION
BYPASS RODS (NOT SHOWN)
Thetransmissionbypassrods(one for eachthe RH and LH transmis-
sion)are locatedbeneaththe frame platform, j ust insideeach rear
wheel.See Figure1 on page9.
Whenengaged,the two rodsopen a bypasswithinthe hydrostatic
transmissions, w hichallows the ridingmowerto be pushedshort
distancesby hand. Referto the Assembly sectionfor instructionson
usingthe bypassfeature.
Nevertow yourridingmower.Towingtheridingmowerwith the rear
wheelson thegroundmaycauseseveredamageto thetransmissions.

Thetransmissionoil expansionreservoiris connectedby hosesto
the RH and LHtransmissionassemblies,and is locatedbeneaththe
seat box.The functionof the reservoiris to hold the naturalexpansion
of transmissionoil that occursas the transmissionwarmsup during
operation.DO NOTFILLTHE RESERVOIR.
Undernormaloperatingconditions,no oil shouldbe addedto the
reservoir.The COLDoil levelshouldbe no higherthan approximately
1/4"(the"Full Cold"mark)abovethe bottomof the reservoir.See
Figure12.

Beforestartingthe engineor beginningoperation,be familiarwith
the controls.Theoperatorshouldbe in the operator'sseat.The
PTOswitchmustbe in the DISENGAGED position,the parking
brakeENGAGED, a nd the RHand LHdrivecontrol leversmoved
to the neutralposition.

Keepall shieldsin place. Keepawayfrom movingparts.
•
NORIDERS!Keepall peopleand pets a safedistanceaway.
Lookbehindand downto bothsides of the ridingmowerbefore
and while backingup.

DONOTdirect the mowerdischargeat people.Neverwalk or
stand on the dischargesideof the mowerwhentheengine is
running.DISENGAGE the PTOif anotherpersonapproaches
whileyou are operatingthe mower.

Avoidslopeswherepossible.Never operateon slopesgreaterthan
15 °.Slopeswith a greaterinclinepresentdangerous operating
conditions. R idingmowerscan be rolledover.Alwaysmowacross
slopes,neverup and downthe slope.Avoidturningdownhill i f pos-
sible,startat thebottomand workup to thetop. Useextracareand
go slowlywhenturningdownhill. C ontrolthe speedanddirectionof
the zeroturnmachine"primarily" w ith thespeed/directional control
(lap bar)of thedownhillsideof themachine,i.e.,maintainthe uphill
sidelap bar "essentially" i n a fixed position.

Beforeleavingthe operator'sseat:DISENGAGE the PTO,move
the RHand LHdrivecontrol leversfully outwardin the neutral
position,engagethe parkingbrake0,
shutoff the engineand
removethe ignitionkey.Waitfor all movement t o stopbefore
servicingor cleaning.

Whenoperatingthis mower,in the forwarddirection,do notallow
the steeringleversto returnto neutralon theirown. Operatethe
drivecontrol leverssmoothlyand avoidany suddenmovements
of the leverswhen startingand stopping.Keepa firm grip on the
control levers.

NOTE: Priorto the initialoperationof the ridingmower,the oil level
in the reservoirmay be slightlyhigherthanthe maximumdue to air in
theoil lines. Operationof the ridingmowerwilleventuallypurgethe air
fromthe lines and theoil levelwill settleto the maximum.

Be carefulwhenoperatingneargravelpathsand roadways.Stop
the bladesand riding mowermotionand wait for vehiclesto pass
beforeoperatingalongthe road.

Donot operatethe riding mowerwith the mowerdeck removed.
Removal o f the deck willchangethe balanced the riding mower,
and couldcontributeto a riding mowerrollover.
Avoidoperationon tractionsurfacesthat are unstable;use
