KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRODUCT AND
PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION
■ CAUTION! - IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: • follow the instruc-
tions; incorrect installation can result in serious injury; • observe these
instructions in the interests of personal safety; • keep the instructions
safely.

1.1 - Installation warnings

■ In consideration of the hazards that may arise during installation and daily use
of the product, installation must be in full observance of the European Directive
98/37/EC (Machinery Directive governing the installation of power-operated doors
and gates) and in particular standards EN 12445, EN 12453 and EN 12635. Com-
pliance with this Directive will enable operation in maximum safety, and the issue of
the relative declaration of conformity at the end of installation, with the consequent
guarantee of system safety. Note - Further information and guidelines on the risk
assessment, useful when drawing up the "Technical Documentation" are available
on the website: www.niceforyou.com .
■ Before starting the installation, you must run a risk assessment. This includes a
list of the essential safety requirements as envisaged in Annex I to the Machinery
Directive, specifying the relative solutions adopted. Note that the risk assessment
is one of the documents included in the automation system's Technical documen-
tation.
■ The installation, hookup, programming and maintenance may be done solely by
a qualified technician, in observance of established legislation, standards, local
regulations and the instructions given in this manual.
■ All installation and maintenance must be done with the automation system discon-
nected from the electrical power supply. Before starting work, affix a notice reading
"CAUTION! MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" to the disconnection unit.
■ Before starting the installation, remove all electrical cables not belonging to the
system and deactivate any mechanisms not require for the powered operation of
the roll-up door.
■ If the product is installed at less than 2.5 m of the floor or other supporting surface,
its moving parts must be covered to prevent accidental contact. To do so, refer to
the roll-up door's manual; however, access must be provided for the maintenance
work itself.
■ During the installation, handle the product with care: be ware of the hazards of
crushing, impact, falling and contact with fluids; do not drill or apply bolts to the
exterior of the motor; do not install the unit close to sources of heat, or expose it
to open flames (fig. 1). This may damage the product and cause malfunctions,
fire and hazards. If this occurs, stop installation immediately and contact Nice
Customer Service.
■ Do not fit bolts to the winder roller along the section that is drawn up into the
motor. They may damage the motor itself.
■ Do not disassemble the product any further than as instructed in this manual.
■ Never make any modifications to part of the product other than those specified in
this manual. The manufacturer declines all liability for damage caused by arbitrary
modifications to the product.
■ Connect the control unit only to an electric power line equipped with an earthing
system.
■ Should an electrical safety device trip (circuit breakers or fuses) during installation,
the cause of the fault must be identified and eliminated before resuming normal
operation.
■ If the power cable is damaged, the product may not be used as it is a source of
hazard. Contact Nice Customer Service to resolve the problem.
■ While installing the system, keep other people away from the door when it is mov-
ing.

1.2 - User warnings

■ The product is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capacities, nor by anyone with insufficient experience
or familiarity.
■ Do not allow children to play with the fixed control devices. If the system includes
remote controls, keep them out of the reach of children.
■ When operating the door, check the automation system and keep people at a safe
distance, until the movement has stopped.
■ When cleaning windows and so on in the vicinity of the automation system, do not
operate the controls; if they are automatic, make sure to disconnect the electrical
power supply.
■ Make sure to check the balancing springs frequently and the condition of the ca-
bles (if present). Do not operate the system if it needs repair or adjustment; have it
serviced by a qualified and specialised technician.
■ The motors are designed for residential applications; they are intended to be oper-
ated continuously for no more than 4 minutes at a time.
■ If the system is not operated for a long time, it is best to disconnect the backup
battery from the controller at socket G (see fig. 8).

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND INTENDED USE

NL085K0DC is a kit for operating large roll-up doors (read paragraph 2.1). Do not
use it for any other purpose! The manufacturer declines all liability for dam-
age resulting from improper use of the product or any other use than that
specified in this manual.
The kit includes: • NL08500DC tubular motor, with cable; • MC524S controller; •
PS124 backup battery; • SMXI radio receiver; • box of accessories.
The controller not only provides DC power to the motor but also regulates its torque
and speed, precisely detects the travel limit positions, starts the motor slowly when
closing, and detects obstacles in the way of the door. It is also equipped with a main-
tenance indicator to enable recording of the manoeuvres performed by the gearmotor
during its lifetime.
2.1 - Application limit
Prior to installing the motor, make sure that the technical features of the rolling shutter
(weight and dimensions) are compatible with the motor's maximum nominal torque
(60 Nm), maximum nominal continuous operating time (4 minutes) and the diameter
chosen for the winding roller (minimum 70 mm).

INSTALLATION OF MECHANICAL COMPO-
NENTS
Caution! - Incorrect installation may cause serious injury.
3.1 - Installation layout for automation components
Place the various components in the room, with reference to fig. 2. CAUTION!
• Some of the devices cited in this manual are optional and not included in
the kit. • Never use devices other than those specified.
Legend for fig. 2 – devices making up the automation system:
1 - Gearmotor; 2 - Photocell; 3 - Keyswitch; 4 - Photocell column; 5 - Antenna;
6 - Flasher; 7 - Portable transmitter; 8 - Sensitive edge.
3.2 - Assembling and installing the tubular motor
CAUTION! • DO NOT remove the label securing the limit switch
collar during this phase. • DO NOT disengage the clips securing
the door to the roller.
To assemble and install the motor, refer to fig. 3. Also refer to the Nice catalogue and
www.niceforyou.com for the limit switch collar (fig. 3-E), drive wheel (fig. 3-D) and
motor bracket (fig. 3-B,C).
• The winding roller on which the motor must be installed must have a minimum
diameter of 70 mm.
• To change the power cable outlet position, refer to fig. 4.
3.3 - Installing the controller and other equipment
• Installing the controller – To install the controller, refer to fig. 5 - 6. Place the
controller close to the roll-up door, where the motor's cable and the mains cable are
located (fig. 7).
• Installing the other devices – Install any optional equipment with reference to their
instruction manuals. Note – To determine which devices are compatible and which
models are suited to your application, refer to the Nice catalogue, also available on
www.niceforyou.com.
• Installing a control keypad – This may be used as a radio transmitter or as a Step-
by-Step button (on the controller's casing), to send the commands to the motor when
using the automation (via cable).
Installation warnings:
– The mechanical operation of the buttons must be of the "hold to run" type: i.e.,
when released, they must return to their initial position. Note - Once the limit
switches are programmed, it is enough to simply press the button to operate the
door. It stops automatically when it reaches the limit position.
– The keypad must be located: a) out of the reach of unauthorised persons; b) in
view of the door, but away from its moving parts; c) to the side of the door, where
the controller's cable is located; d) no less than 1.5 m off the ground.
4
LAYING ELECTRICAL CABLES
Once all mechanical components have been installed, route the cables, with refer-
ence to fig. 7 and Table A. The latter summarises the technical specifications of
each cable.
Caution! – If the installation is done indoors or under cover, we recommend using
type H03VV-F cables.
