USING THE DSL2
The DSL2 is designed as a personal
fall protection device connecting the
full body harness (EN361) to a suitable
anchor point. The retracting function of
the device limits the potential free fall
distance of the workers and therefore
reducing the clearance height required
to arrest the fall safely.
The DSL2 has been developed for use
in applications where a traditional
energy absorbing lanyard would have
been used. The DSL2 can also be used
in applications where a small Self-
Retracting Lifeline (EN360) would have
been used.
Anchor points for the DSL2 must be
equivalent to the requirements of
EN795 (>12kN)
Always connect to the highest available
anchor, or anchor furthest from the fall
hazard.
When climbing or traversing
progressive movement should be made
between anchor points using the twin
version of the DSL2. At least one anchor
hook must be connected to an anchor
point at all times, commonly referred
to as 100% attachment. The lanyard is
safe to use when one, or both anchor
hooks are connected to anchor points.
Never use two "single" DSL2 lanyards
as a pair, always use a "twin" DSL2 for
progressive movement.
The anchor hooks must never be
attached to the harness webbing
The anchor hooks must never be
attached to the "A" fall arrest
attachment points on the harness.
Before commencing work an
assessment of the work environment
should be made in relation to safe
clearance height. Only anchor points
with suffi cient free space beneath them
should be used. The clearance height
required is calculated based on the
height of the anchor in relation to the
users attachment point. Refer to 'Annex
A' for more detail.
Priority should be given to overhead
anchor points, however the DSL2 can
be used to connect to anchor points
below the harness attachment point.
Note that signifi cantly greater
clearance height will be required
for an anchor point below head
height.
