3.3 Operating modes for motors without cooling jacket
3.3.1 Operating mode S1 (continuous operation)
The submersible motor without cooling jacket has to be immersed in the flow medium all the time and
will be cooled directly. The water level may only be lowered to the upper edge of the motor.
Once this minimum level is reached, a reliable level control should be used to switch
the pump off as a safety measure!
3.3.2 Operating mode S2 (short time rating)
The submersible motor without cooling jacket must not operate for more than 8 minutes if it is non-
immersed. Before anew switching operation, the motor has to be cooled down to ambient tempera-
ture.
The maximum permissible operating time of the pump without cooling jacket with
non-immersed motor is 8 minutes and must not be exceeded!
The planner has to determine the cooling time of the motor depending on the prevail-
ing ambient conditions!
The water level may only be lowered to the upper edge of the pump housing.
Once this minimum level is reached, a reliable level control should be used to switch
the pump off as a safety measure!
3.3.3 Operating mode S3 25% (intermittent operation)
The submersible motor without cooling jacket may be operated in a non-immersed state for 2.5 min-
utes if the pump will be operated in a sump. The time of one operating cycle is 10 minutes. So a cool-
ing time of the motor of at least 7.5 minutes before the next switching operation is guaranteed.
The planner has to dimension the sump depending on the prevailing ambient condi-
tions!
The water level may only be lowered to the upper edge of the pump housing.
Once this minimum level is reached, a reliable level control should be used to switch
the pump off as a safety measure!
Before anew switching operation, the water level has to rise up at least until the upper
edge of the motor. So an additional, direct cooling of the motor by the flow medium is
guaranteed!
