Electrical connection

All operations related to the electrical equipment must be performed only with the electricity distribution network discon-
nected and after taking the necessary precautions to ensure that it cannot be inadvertently reconnected.
The electric motor can absorb 15% to 30% more than the rated power shown in the plate. The rated power indicated in the motor plate is the
power supplied to the pump. Due to its efficiency, infact, the motor must absorb a higher power from the main power network to be able to supply
the power required by the pump. For example:

Electrical connections must be carried out perfectly by skilled personnel complying with local safety regulations and stan-
dards. Check that voltage and frequency comply with the plate value of the electric pump. Use the proper terminal inside the
motor terminal board to make the earthing, by connecting a properly sized cable to the ground plate.
Earthing shall be carried out in compliance with safety regulations and standards and under the installer's responsibility. Connect the
terminals according to the network voltage available as indicated on the motor plate. Make sure that the electric cable is of a suitable
diameter in consideration of its length and also that it is correctly insulated. Fuse protection alone is not enough.
Check that the motor rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow on the support. To invert the rotation direction in three-
phase voltage, simply invert two of the three electrical supply wires (fig. 9). For single-phase voltage shifts the bars accor-
ding to fig. 10 by using the same terminals and feed by 220V. Do not let the pump function in the wrong direction for more
than 4-5 minutes: a longer running could cause irretrievable damages.
It is essential to protect the motor by a contactor with an overload thermal relay set to the rated power of the motor so that
electrical power is cut off in case of: short circuit, overloading (even slight) for a long period, lack of phase on the network.
Control panel and related equipment must be of good quality and of appropriate calibration in order to maintain a reliable operation over the
time, it must be installed in a well ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight in a well-ventilated and free from moisture (it is always useful
to adopt an ammeter and a voltmeter). The starting equipment must be equipped with:
- switch and fuses of adequate capacity;
- contactor with thermal relay proportionally sized with the motor power;
- undervoltage relay in the event of a phase failure.
On high powered motors (≥ 55 kW and above), we advise to use an automatic cut-off device for temporary lack of voltage on
the 3 phases, which requires the pump to be re-started manually after shutting the gate valve; do not start the pump with the
gate valve open to avoid overloading of the motor.
