2. Safety
2.5- Safety in the use of the hydraulic system
ƒ Make sure that all hydraulic system components are kept in good condition.
ƒ Immediately replace damaged, cut, crushed hoses.
ƒ Always relieve the system pressure before disconnecting a hydraulic hose.
ƒ Avoid physical contact with the hydraulic oil, it contains additives which, in
some situations, can be harmful to health.
ƒ Do not attempt improvised repairs on hydraulic fittings or hoses using
adhesive tape, staples, or cements. The hydraulic system operates under
extreme pressure. Such repairs will suddenly fail and create a dangerous and
unsafe condition.
ƒ Hydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin or eyes and cause serious
injury, blindness or death. If injured by a high pressure hydraulic fluid flow,
seek medical attention immediately.
ƒ Wear eye protection goggles and appropriate gloves when researching for
fluid leaks from the hydraulic system. Never use bare hands.
ƒ All hoses and quick couplings should be inspected periodically for visible
damage. Hydraulic hoses may be worn, even if they do not show visible
damage. Defective hoses may cause personal injury or fire.
ƒ If hydraulic hoses are replaced, follow local regulations for correct disposal.
