Sensitivity setting
Sensor which it is not possible to set: The sensor is adjusted and ready for operation.
Refer to graphic to check the function. If the switching output fails to behave in accordance
with graphic, check application conditions. See section Fault diagnosis.
Sensor with potentiometer:
The sensitivity is adjusted with the potentiometer (type: 270°). Clockwise rotation: operat‐
ing reserve increased; counterclockwise rotation: operating reserve reduced. We recom‐
mend setting the potentiometer to "Maximum". A lower operating reserve may be neces‐
sary for depolarizing surfaces, very small objects, or translucent objects.
HL18T: Clear material sensor with standard potentiometer sensitivity adjustment:
Adjustment for detecting transparent objects (> 10 % damping): Place object between sen‐
sor and reflector. Reduce sensitivity (turn potentiometer (type: 270° counterclockwise)
until the yellow signal LED on top and back of the sensor is off. If the sensor equipped with
a signal strength light bar, only red LEDs on the light bar should be illuminated.
Remove the transparent object. If the yellow signal LED is illuminated the setup is com‐
plete. If the sensor is equipped with a signal strength light bar the yellow and possibly
some green LEDs will be illuminated.
If the yellow signal LED does not illuminate when the transparent object is removed, check
the alignment and application conditions.
HL18G: Clear material sensor with teach and AutoAdapt sensitivity adjustment:
Clockwise rotation past half the available rotation will initiate the teach process. Counter‐
clockwise rotation below half the available rotation will complete the teach procedure and
return the sensor to run mode.
There are three teach modes:
Mode 1: Switching when signal attenuation from the transparent object is > 10%. Typ‐
ically used for highly transparent targets such as PET bottles.
Mode 2: Switching when signal attenuation from the transparent object is > 18%. Typ‐
ically used for clear glass objects.
Mode 3: Switching when signal attenuation from the transparent object is > 40%. Typ‐
ically used for colored glass or opaque objects.
Before starting the teach procedure create a clear path between the sensor and reflector.
Then turn the potentiometer clockwise past half rotation. The yellow signal LED on top and
back of the sensor will turn off for a moment to indicate that teach has been initiated. After
