adhesive surface and the skin. Avoid air pockets and areas of
non-contact. The contact surfaces must not overlap. Do not use
contact gel.
In the case of return electrodes without an integrated cable, use
a suitable Erbe connecting cable for return electrodes (for com-
patible cables and order numbers, see the conformity declara-
tion provided). Insert the contact tab of the return electrode fully
into the connecting clamp of the cable. The contact tab must not
touch the patient's skin. There is a danger of burns.
Do not reapply a return electrode (not even at a different loca-
tion) that has already been applied.

Reducing the risk of accidental tissue damage

Observe the following power limitations. The return electrodes
are designed for a maximum of 400 watts (in accordance with
EN ISO 60601-2-2).
Do not activate for long periods. The temperature under the re-
turn electrode increases when activated for long periods or when
activated for several long periods in quick session. The patient is
at risk of accidental tissue damage. In this case, make sure that
there are sufficient cooling periods without activation. For more
information, also refer to the User Manual of the electrosurgical
unit. The section describing the type of operation provides im-
portant information on the duration of activation and on the
cooling periods.
If the electrosurgical unit does not achieve the desired effect, al-
ways check the return electrode first. Make sure that the return
electrode has been correctly applied, that there is still skin con-
tact, and that the connection to the electrosurgical unit is correct
before you increase the power or the effect.
