15.Turn the wing-nut counterclockwise 4 FULL to 4.5 TURNS to create a space between
the cartridge and anvil to remove the instrument. Opening the wing-nut 4 full turns will allow
the anvil to tilt on its side for easy removal through the anastomosis. Pull the instrument
straight
out of the new anastomosis, and gently remove it. Then inspect the staple line for
hemostasis.
16.Remove the detachable anvil, washer (if present), and donuts from within the circular
knife for donuts inspection. Examine the integrity of the donuts which should be intact with
all tissue layers included. Incomplete donuts indicate risk of leakage in the anastomosis,
and appropriate repairs should be made.
