When connecting the charger, take care that
the battery pack 17 intended for this measur-
ing tool is inserted. When connecting the bat-
tery charger while using other battery packs, there
is danger of explosion.
A battery that is new or has not been used for a longer
period does not develop its full capacity until after
approx. 5 charging/discharging cycles.
Do not charge the battery pack each time after using,
otherwise its capacity will be reduced.
– When the battery charge-control indicator 3
lights up green, the battery pack is full or suffi-
ciently charged.
– When the battery charge-control indicator 3
lights up red, the battery pack is low and must be
charged.
– When the battery charge-control indicator 3
flashes red, the voltage of the battery pack is too
low to operate the measuring tool. Charge or
replace the battery pack immediately.
When the battery pack is empty, the measuring tool
can also be operated with the battery charger 24.
Switch the measuring tool off and connect the battery
charger to the measuring tool and to the mains supply.
When the battery pack is deeply discharged, it must
be charged for approx. 15 minutes before the measur-
ing tool can be switched on and operated with the
connected battery charger.
A considerably reduced operating period after charg-
ing indicates that the battery pack is used up and
must be replaced.
Operation
Initial Operation
Protect the measuring tool against direct
sunlight.
Do not subject the measuring tool to
extreme temperatures or variations in tem-
perature. As an example, do not leave it in vehi-
cles for longer periods. In case of large variations
in temperature, allow the measuring tool to adjust
to the ambient temperature before putting it into
operation. In case of extreme temperatures or var-
iations in temperature, the accuracy of the measur-
ing tool can be impaired.
Avoid heavy impact to or falling down of the
measuring tool. After severe exterior effects to
the measuring tool, it is recommended to carry out
an accuracy check (see "Accuracy Check of the
Measuring Tool", page 26) each time before con-
tinuing to work.

Setting Up the Measuring Tool
Horizontal position
Vertical position
Position the measuring tool on a firm surface in the
horizontal or vertical position, mount it to a tripod or to
the wall mount 29 with alignment unit.
Due to the high levelling accuracy, the measuring tool
reacts sensitively to ground vibrations and position
changes. Therefore, pay attention that the position of
the measuring tool is stable in order to avoid opera-
tional interruptions due to re-levelling.
Switching On and Off (LM800GR)
Do not point the laser beam at persons or
animals and do not look into the laser beam
yourself, not even from a large distance.
Do not leave the switched on measuring tool
unattended and switch the measuring tool
off after use. Other persons could be blinded by
the laser beam.
To switch on the measuring tool, press the On/Off
button 4. The battery charge-control indicator 3 lights
up. Immediately after switching on, the measuring tool
sends out the variable laser beam 12.
In horizontal position, the measuring tool immediately
starts the automatic levelling after switching on. Dur-
ing the coarse levelling, the laser flashes and does not
rotate. After the coarse levelling is completed, the
measuring tool automatically starts in rotational oper-
ation. The measuring tool precisely levels itself within
the next 60 seconds.
When factory set, the shock-warning function is auto-
matically switched on, and the shock-warning indica-
tor 9 lights up red.
To switch off, press the On/Off 4 pushbutton again.
Switching On and Off (LM800DP)
Do not point the laser beam at persons or
animals and do not look into the laser beam
yourself, not even from a large distance.
Do not leave the switched on measuring tool
unattended and switch the measuring tool
off after use. Other persons could be blinded by
the laser beam.
To switch on the measuring tool, press the On/Off
button 4. The battery charge-control indicator 3 lights
up. Immediately after switching on, the measuring tool
sends out the variable laser beam 12 as well as the
plumb beam 19 upward.
