• The recommended air gap between the bottom edge of the bulkhead and floor of the
trailer is 200 mm (8.00 in.)
• Pallet stops should be installed under the bottom edge of the bulkhead to keep pallets or
load from contacting the bulkhead. The pallet stops must allow cross flow air.
• Individual standoffs or continuous cross members can be used to fasten and support the
bulkhead to the front wall of the trailer.
• Continuous cross members must have 25 to 30 mm (1.00 to 1.25 in.) diameter cross
flow air holes spaced at 50 mm (2.00 in.) intervals.
• Holes may be drilled in the area on the bulkhead directly behind the return air inlet. Drill
at least 30 holes with a diameter of 50 mm (2.00 in.). These holes must be covered for
low loads (top of the load below the top holes) to prevent short cycling.
Bulkhead Dimensions
• A bulkhead installed more than 102 mm (4.00 in.) from the front wall of the trailer may
not permit 33 pallet application.
• The minimum allowable free area for the return airflow passageway is 0.10 meter
square. If the trailer front wall configuration does not allow the suggested return airflow
passageway, the bulkhead depth must allow the minimum free area at the narrowest
point in the return airflow passageway.
• The bulkhead or part of the bulkhead must be easily removed to provide access to
service the evaporator components.
