DESCRIPTION
The system is composed of a full face mask (VENUS1 or ZENITH1),
connected to a ventilation kit called AIR SYSTEM.
1.1 FACE MASK:
1.1.1 VENUS1 full face mask.
The single size EPDM rubber face blank is designed to fit the majority
of facial shapes and sizes.
1.1.2 ZENITH1 full face mask.
The silicone rubber face blank is designed to fit the following facial
shapes and sizes:
size L for cheekbone measurements greater than 148 mm;
size M for cheekbone measurements between 138 and 148 mm;
size S for cheekbone measurements of less than 138 mm.
(Please read full face mask use and maintenance instructions
packed with each mask carefully).
1.2 AIR SYSTEM
There are 2 types of ventilation kits:
AL AIR SYSTEM: to be used only with AL exhalation valve
AL BP3 AIR SYSTEM: to be used only with Backup filter
They consist of:
1.2.1 AL AIR CONTROL VALVE: Composed of a diaphragm type
pressure regulator with filter.
1.2.2 BREATHING TUBE: Composed of a black rubber hose and
fittings for connection to the full face mask.
1.2.3 AIR-LINE: Composed of one 20-meter hose segment equipped
with Q.D. couplings. Max. pressure sustained: 40 bar.
1.2.4 AIRFLOW INDICATOR: Composed of a transparent tube with
sphere inside. Use the indicator to check the airflow of the unit it is
supplied with only.
1.2.5 AL EXHALATION VALVE (only AL AIR SYSTEM): screwed onto
mask
1.2.6 Backup P3 Filter (only AL BP3 AIR SYSTEM). Supplied with cap
and screwed onto the breathing tube.
2.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 FULL FACE MASKS:
Conform to: EN 136:1998/AC:2003.
The threaded connection conforms to EN 148-1.
2.2 AL AIR CONTROL VALVE
Compressed air working pressure: min. 5 bar, max. 6 bar
Air flow at min. setting: > 170 l/min.
Air flow at max. setting: between 300 and 315 l/min.
Use temperature: 0°C / +40° C
3.
FUNCTION
Breathable compressed air (as specified in current standards) passes
through the air control valve and is sent through the breathing tube to the
inside of the full face mask. The air flows over the front of the visor
minimising visor misting. Exhaled and excess air is expelled through the
exhalation valve on the full face mask and, on the version without a backup
P3 filter, through the AL exhalation valve mounted on the connection
between the breathing tube and the mask. (See also full face mask user
and maintenance instructions packed with the mask).
4.
USE
4.1 For the protection of the respiratory system against solid and liquid
aerosols, fumes, vapours and gas.
4.2 LIMITATIONS
Do not use
a)
In atmospheres immediately dangerous to life and health.
b)
If you have sideburns, beard, a moustache and/or wear spectacles, as
these will prevent a good face mask seal.
c)
In highly toxic environments.
d)
In potentially explosive atmospheres.
e)
In potentially highly flammable environments.
f)
The BP3 backup system adds further limitations. It only provides
protection:
In atmospheres with a concentration of oxygen sufficient for
breathing;
Against particulates and liquid and solid aerosols
5.
USE INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 FULL FACE MASK PREPARATION:
See full face mask use and maintenance instructions.
5.2 HOW TO DON THE FULL FACE MASK:
See full face mask use and maintenance instructions.
5.3 AL AIR CONTROL VALVE PREPARATION:
The air control valve is ready for use.
5.4 RESPIRATOR PREPARATION:
Check that the air control valve is properly fitted through belt and
tighten belt around waist.
Connect one end of the airline to the air control valve and the
other end to a source of breathable compressed air. Turn unit ON,

set at maximum speed and adjust the pressure to those indicated
at point 2.2.
Connect breathing tube to full face mask.
Ensure that the AL exhalation valve or the BP3 filter is properly
tightened.
5.5 AIRFLOW INDICATOR:
Connect one end of the airline to a source of breathable
compressed air (see point 2.2). Disconnect the tube connecting
the AL air control valve to the breathing tube.
Screw the air flow indicator onto the breathing tube connection:
a)
If the sphere inside rises above the horizontal mark on the
cylinder, the equipment is ready for use.
b)
If the sphere settles under the horizontal mark on the
cylinder, do not use the equipment.
6.
MAINTENANCE
6.1 FULL FACE MASK:
See full face mask use and maintenance instructions.
6.2 AIR CONTROL VALVE:
Have the filtering material inside the air control valve filter housing
replaced by trained personnel (by unscrewing the filter housing
using a standard spanner) after about 15 days of actual operation.
Clean the air control valve with solvent-free detergents or
preferably wipe with a cloth dipped into a 50% water and ethyl-
alcohol solution.
6.3 BELT AND HOSES:
Do not require maintenance.
Clean with solvent-free detergents or preferably wipe with a cloth
dipped into a 50% water and ethyl-alcohol solution.
6.4 AL EXHALATION VALVE:
The AL exhalation valve maintenance to be carried out is the same as
that of the exhalation valves on the face mask. See full face mask use
and maintenance instructions.
6.5 BACKUP P3 FILTER:
The filter cannot be washed, blown clean or regenerated.
Once unsealed, filters must be replaced every 3 months,
regardless of the number of hours they have been used. It is
therefore advisable to write on the filter the date on which it was
opened.
When the filter is clogged or blocked, it must be discarded.
6.6 Have the respirator checked once a year c/o a KASCO authorized
service centre.
7.
CAUTION
7.1
Do not use the respirator in the conditions described at point 4.2.
7.2
Do not use the respirator unless the air control valve is connected to
a source of breathable air as defined in EN 12021.
7.3
Do not use the respirator if the air pressure is different to that
specified at point 2.2.
The respirator will not function if the inlet pressure is less that that
specified at point 2.2
7.4
Return to fresh, clean air immediately and remove face mask in the
event:
a) of uncommon taste or smell or if you experience irritation of the
eyes, nose or throat.
b) inhaled air becomes extremely hot.
c) of dizziness, nausea, headache or a general feeling of malaise.
7.5
BP3 BACKUP SYSTEM.
The respirator model without a BP3 filter (CODE 0323015) will not
provide any respiratory protection if the flow of compressed air is
interrupted. In the event that the air supply is interrupted, all other
models equipped with backup BP3 filter systems will, once the filter
cap has been removed, still provide protection against particulates
and liquid and solid aerosols, with the limitations listed under 4.2.
7.6
Do not alter or modify the respirator in any way.
7.7
This respirator is to be used only by qualified personnel trained in the
use of the equipment and on its technical limits, as well as the limits
imposed by the law.
7.8
Do not use the respirator if it has not been serviced annually by an
authorized service centre.
7.9
In case of excessive humidity and at low temperatures, frost could
form.
