Both foils to be jointed must be free of any grease and clean
on the welding surface at the overlap; clean them before the
welding operation if needed.
Important
Every day and when a new kind of foils is going to be jointed,
test welding operations are recommended to optimize joint
quality. (This may require different settings for the welding
in terms of nominal temperature and speed.)

Entering Traceability Data

If the machine is configured to request the input of traceability data
related to the welding, then the screens for entering these data are
shown before welding (see Display 10): welder identification code,
commission number, installing company, and first and second user-
defined additional data.
The input of these data is done on the keypad with the , ð, ñ, ò
arrow keys and then they are confirmed by pressing the START/SET
key.
Entering the welder ID code is mandatory if it is enabled in
the configuration menu.

Performing the Welding Process

Prior to the welding process proper, started by pressing the START/
SET key from the standard screen (Display 2), place the welder in
front of the length of foil to be welded and insert the two foils above
and below the welding wedge (see Sect. 4.6) in such a way that their
edges at the beginning of the welding length are a bit in front of
the wedge.
If technical parameters or traceability data (foil material, thickness,
nominal temperature, welder, and commission number) of the next
welding operation have to be entered or changed, press the  arrow
key to access this menu (see Display 11).
Pressing the START/SET key triggers a comparison of the actual heat-
ing wedge temperature and the nominal temperature. If the wedge is
not at nominal temperature yet, the next step is possible after a few
moments only in which it is heated to the nominal value. Then the
user is prompted in a new screen to set the correct speed of the nip
rollers. This is the last possibility to set it, in m/min, using the provided
potentiometer (see the description of doing it at the end of Sect. 4.1).
As long as the speed setpoint screen is displayed, the process can be
aborted by pressing STOP/RESET. After the nominal speed was set, the
screen that asks the user to do it disappears automatically and the nip
rollers start to turn. The following steps have then to be performed
fast one after the other:
• Push the wedge welder "into" the foils to make them slide across
the wedge and in-between the nip rollers.
• Push down the clamping handle to the point where, according to
the scale imprinted on it, it is set correcty to match the thickness
of the foils, and fasten it in this position with the lock latch.
• Turn the catch of the welding wedge to snap the lock pin into
the eyelet of the positioning disk.
• Observe the welding process from the moment the nip rollers
press against the foils and, thereby, pull the wedge welder along
the foils.
