Select Acupuncture ON/OFF in the physician mode.
Do not place needles for electro-acupuncture from the same pair directly over the heart.
Disinfect and dry the skin before penetrating with the acupuncture needles. Connect the clamps to
the needles. Place the clamps as close to the skin as possible to prevent "sagging" needles.
The distance between the two needles in a pair should not be less than 3 cm (1- 1/4") or greater than
30 cm (12"). The patient must feel the stimulation clearly in the treatment area.
Both high-frequency and low-frequency stimulation should be felt clearly, but with absolutely no pain.
With high-frequency stimulation, the patient should clearly feel paresthesia, and with low-frequency
stimulation, visible muscle contractions should occur. This can sometimes be difficult to attain without
painful stimulation (for example in the facial area). If so it is important to clearly see muscular
fasciculation around the needle.
High-frequency stimulation:
Gives segmental, fast, brief effect. Used primarily with local, segmental needles. Usually acute and
sub-acute pain conditions are treated with high-frequency stimulation for rapid pain alleviation.
Low-frequency stimulation:
Gives segmental and general effect, slower. Used with local and distal extra segmental needles. Used
primarily to amplify the general effect of manual acupuncture.
Mixed frequency stimulation:
Gives a combined effect of low-frequency and high-frequency stimulation.
Note when treating with mixed-frequency stimulation: You must set amplitude for each frequency.
