As a rule, the chain slack at the bottom centre is approx. 2-3 cm when
there is a load on the motorcycle. You should therefore check the play
by taking the motorcycle off its centre stand and sitting on it. A second
person may be needed to do this check.
Also check that the chain slack is even. If the slack changes, check that the
components are running centrically.
5 | Storage
Until it is installed, the chain and sprocket kit should be stored in the original
packaging in a closed room that is protected against the weather and moisture.
6 | Cleaning and care
Only a clean, well lubricated and correctly tensioned chain will have a long service
life. This means it is important to regularly check the state of the chain, and
ensure uniform slack and correct tension. Grease the chain whenever it looks
"dry" (and also after prolonged riding in the rain on the motorway, for example).
In the process, you must use a suitable chain spray for the type of chain. Always
apply the chain spray to the slack at the bottom of the chain. Collect any excess
chain spray on the floor with an underlay (piece of paper). Do not over-grease
the chain – excess chain grease is quickly flung from the chain. It is sufficient to
apply just enough to coat the chain along its full length. Allow time for the chain
spray to dry – at least 15-20 minutes, but better still overnight – before the next
journey, so that it adheres optimally.
