Operating Instructions – Spring Balancers
SAFETY – ACCIDENT PREVENTION

Intended Use

• The spring balancers are exclusively designed for keeping hand-held tools – such as drilling machines, com-
pressed-air screwdrivers, etc. – within easy reach.
• Any other or additional use shall be deemed as non-intended! The manufacturer/supplier will not accept any
responsibility for damage resulting from any non-intended use. Associated risks shall be borne by the user alone.
• Using the spring balancers outside of the field of use described above shall void any warranty claims unless the
written consent of Carl Stahl Kromer GmbH has been obtained beforehand.
• The spring balancers may only be used, installed, serviced and repaired by specially trained personnel.

Incorrect Use

The spring balancer may not be used as a crane.

Residual Risks

Danger of body harm, including fatal injuries!
DANGER !
NEVER walk, work or stand under suspended loads!
!
Danger of extremely severe injuries!
WARNING !
• Unloaded cables (if working load is taken off the extended cable) can snap backwards in a
!
lashing motion.
NEVER unhook loads from an extended cable!
Attach or remove loads only when the cable is FULLY retracted.
• Should a cable snap back (in unloaded condition), it may break out of its mount, meaning
that it is no longer properly anchored inside the spring balancer. Therefore, withdraw the
spring balancer from service immediately in any such case, mark it accordingly, and
inform your superior or the responsible person.
• If tools are pulled out at an angle exceeding the permitted angulation of 10°, they could
swing to and fro violently when set free, causing personal injuries as a result.
• NEVER dismantle the spring housing.

Additional Safety Instructions

• Before allowing personnel to work with the spring balancer, the ope-
ATTENTION !
!
rator is required to instruct them in the proper use of the balancer in
accordance with these Operating Instructions.
• Never operate the spring balancer without the safety equipment in
place (e.g. "anti-crash" safety device [4])! Never remove such safety
devices or modify them in an attempt to make them inoperative!
• It is strictly forbidden to use defective spring balancers. For examp-
le, this would be the case if a spring balancer crashes down, or if its
fall is stopped by the "anti-crash" safety chain (4). Such a spring
balancer must not be reused unless both the strained anti-crash
safety device (4) and the housing have been replaced.
• Only specially authorized and trained persons are permitted to
repair, disassemble or reassemble the spring balancer. Note that it
is mandatory to use original spare parts from Carl Stahl Kromer
GmbH in any such case, as only genuine spare parts meet the
required safety criteria.
• Be sure to operate the spring balancer only at the suspended load.
Grasping the cable stop buffer or the cable clamp for this purpose
may crush your fingers and therefore is strictly forbidden.
