Leak test
WARNING — Danger of slipping on leaking
test oil!
Test oil on the floor can cause dangerous
falls and serious injury.
Immediately clean up any test oil that has
leaked while changing the injector or from
leakage with an absorbent material, and pro-
perly dispose of the oily material.
The leak test is used to ensure that the high-pressure
hose is correctly connected to the CRI/CRIN or piezo
CRI and not leaking. Also, the leak test determines if
the CRI/CRIN or piezo CRI is leaking, e.g. at the injec-
tion nozzle. The leak test is divided into three stages.
Static leak test (low pressure and high pressure) and
dynamic leak test.
!
A leaking CRI/CRIN or piezo CRI must not be used
for further test steps. Remove the leaking CRI/CRIN
or piezo CRI immediately.
i
During the leak test, the EPS 118 software stays
in the test step until the test is either canceled
with the button <Injector leaking> or <Stop> or
continued with the button <Continue>. The button
<Injector leaking> is used to cancel the test and
document the CRI/CRIN or piezo CRI as "Injector
leaking" in the test protocol.
Procedure:
i
Step 1/3 (low-pressure) and step 2/3 (high-pressu-
re) are static leak tests without injection.
i
In the static leak test, the injection nozzle is out-
side the injection chamber (Fig. 5, item 1, 5) in
order to diagnose possible injector nozzle leaks.
i
This test step also makes it possible to identify
leaks in the hose assembly connections.
1. Wipe off the nozzle tip.
2. Close the protective cover.
3. Start the (low pressure) static leak test by pressing
<Start>.
The test pressure builds up. If there is leakage
at the injection nozzle or the connections, stop
the test immediately with <Injector leaking> or
<Stop>.
Once the test pressure is reached and the test
time is over, the button <Continue> is displayed.

4. Continue to the (high-pressure) static leak test by
pressing <Next>.
The maximum test pressure builds up. If there
is leakage at the injection nozzle or the connec-
tions, stop the test immediately with <Injector
leaking> or <Stop>.
Once the test pressure is reached and the test
time is over, the button <Continue> is displayed.
5. Go to the dynamic leak test with <Continue>.
i
Step 3/3 is a dynamic leak test with injection. The
CRI/CRIN or piezo CRI is subject to the maximum
permissible pressure and is actuated. The injector
nozzle of the CRI/CRIN or piezo CRI must therefore
be inserted into the injection chamber.
6. Open the protective hood.
7. Insert the CRI/CRIN or piezo CRI into the injection
chamber and clamp (see sec. 5.4.6).
8. Close the protective cover.
9. Continue testing with <Start>.
The maximum test pressure builds up. If there is
leakage at the connections, stop the test imme-
diately with <Injector leaking> or <Stop>.
Once the test pressure is reached and the test
time is over, the button <Continue> is displayed.
10. Stop the dynamic leak test and continue testing with
<Continue>.
i
If there is considerable leakage, the test is can-
celed and a message is displayed.
