Attention: for any later adjustments, do not unscrew the adapter with the external thread (37) more than one full
turn.
Secure the M5 locking screw of the 3-arm socket adapter with Loctite and to a torque of 10 Nm. Use a torque
wrench (5 mm Allen key).
Slide the washers (34 & 35) onto the
29 mm central screw (32), guide the screw through the central opening in the head of the joint (26), and tighten
the adapter (37) to a torque of 35 Nm.
Secure the central screw (32) with Loctite and use a torque wrench
(8 mm Allen key).
Attention: never mix up the central screws! The pyramid adapter (36) must be screwed tight with the 40 mm long
central screw (33), the loop adapter (39) and the adapter with the external thread (37) must be screwed tight with
the 29 mm long central screw (32), and the IKF-Adapter (40) must be screwed tight with the 27 mm long central
screw (31). Safety relevant!
OPTIMISING THE PROSTHESIS ALIGNMENT
After the respective central screw has been loosened, unlimited rotation (exception: IKF-adapter) and AP/ML
corrections of 5 mm are possible.
Furthermore, in the case of version Balance Knee KFM1 with a loop adapter, alignment corrections in flexion,
extension, adduction and abduction of up to max. 10° can be made with the aid of the adjustment discs (38).
Attention: always make sure that the respective central screw (36, 37 or 38) is tightened to a torque of 35 Nm at the
dynamic fitting session to prevent any unwanted rotation and thus risk to the user.
ADJUSTMENT
Stance phase stability
The joints are configured as a conventional locking knee at the factory and are delivered in this setting.
Swing phase control when using the joint as a freely mobile joint with integrated extension spring
• Adjusting the extension assist spring:
– Use a screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw (1) to the right ▸ ▸ ▸ to increase the action of the extension
spring.
– Use a screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw (1) to the left ◂ ◂ ◂ to decrease the action of the extension
spring.
• Adjusting axle friction with the help of the friction screw (13)
– Use a 5 mm Allen key to turn the friction screw (13) to the right ▸ ▸ ▸ to increase fraction at the axle.
– Use a 5 mm Allen key to turn the friction screw (13) to the left ◂ ◂ ◂ to decrease fraction at the axle.
CONVERTING THE JOINTS
Locking ▸ ▸ ▸ mechanical
• Push the release lever (27) upwards and hold it in this position.
• Use a 2.5 mm Allen key to turn the two release screws (24) adjacent to the release lever (27) finger-tight to the
right ▸ ▸ ▸ to secure it in this position.
• Caution: Tighten the release screws (24) to 5 Nm and always secure them with Loctite when finishing the
prosthesis. Use a torque wrench.
Attention: Failure to observe point 1 when tightening the 2.5 mm release screws (24) results in loss of function of
the joint and/or makes it impossible to release the joint.
Mechanical ▸ ▸ ▸ Locking
• Conversion to a fixed knee is performed in the reverse order by turning the two 2.5 mm release screws
anticlockwise ◂ ◂ ◂ until the release lever (27) moves freely.
