Tests and Approvals

The Ex-approvals apply to the use of the gas transmitter in gas / vapour air mixtures of
flammable gases and vapours or dust-air mixtures of flammable dusts under atmospheric
conditions. The Ex-approvals do not apply for use in oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
Approvals: see "Technical data" on page 25, certificates: see page 396 to page 418.
Ex e PIR 7000 terminal box (see assembly instructions 90 33 014):
Hazardous areas classified by zones:
This device is designed for use only in the Ex areas Zone 1 and Zone 2, with a temperature range
to be maintained as specified on the device, and in which gases of Explosion Groups IIA, IIB or
IIC and Temperature Classes T4 or T6 (depending on the maximum ambient temperature) or
explosive dust may occur.
– Not tested in environments with increased oxygen content.
Ex d PIR 7000 Junction Box (see assembly instructions 90 33 297):
Hazardous areas classified by zones:
The device designed for use only in the Ex areas Zone 1 and Zone 2, with a temperature to be
maintained as specified on the device, and in which gases of Explosion Groups IIA, IIB or IIC
and Temperature Classes T4 or T6 (depending on the maximum ambient temperature) or dust
of Groups IIIA, IIIB or IIIC may occur.
Hazardous areas classified by divisions:
The device is designed for use only in the Ex areas Class I and II Ex, Div. 1 or 2, with a
temperature range to be maintained as specified on the device, and in which gases or dust of
Groups A, B, C, D or E, F, G and Temperature Classes T4 or T6 (depending on the maximum
ambient temperature) may occur.
– Not tested in environments with increased oxygen content.
– The threads for the flameproof enclosure do not meet the minimum/maximum values from
EN/IEC 60079-1. The requirements from EN/IEC 60079-1 are exceeded. The threads are
not designed to be modified by the user.
Installation
Installation of the gas transmitter should only be carried out by experts (e. g. Dräger service)
subject to the conditions in force at the location of use.
Installation location
– The correct installation location should be selected for maximum detection effect.
Free circulation of air around the gas transmitter must not be obstructed.
– Select the installation location for the gas transmitter as close as possible to where leaks are
likely to occur:
– to monitor gases or vapours that are lighter than air, the gas transmitter should be
positioned higher than the potential leak site.
– to monitor gases or vapours that are heavier than air, the gas transmitter should be
positioned as close to the ground as possible.
– Local air flow conditions should be taken into account. The gas transmitter should be sited
where the highest gas concentration is expected.
– Install the gas transmitter in a position where there is least risk of mechanical damage.
The gas transmitter must be easily accessible for maintenance. A clearance of approx.
20 cm around the gas transmitter is required.
18
Use the preferred position
– If a splash guard is used, make sure that the status lights are visible above it when installed.
The "Dräger" on the splash guard must be horizontally readable. A maximum deviation from
the horizontal of only ±30° is permitted. An adjustable connection (union) must be used with
gas transmitters with a 3/4" NPT thread to maintain the preferred position.
– Only gas transmitters without a splash guard may be installed differently – the danger of dirt
accumulating on the optical surfaces is greater in this case.
Water and/or dirt on the optical surfaces may trigger a warning or a fault.
Mechanical installation
Never attempt to open the gas transmitter enclosure. Doing so could damage the device's
measuring technology. The device does not contain any parts that can be serviced by the user.
Any unauthorised opening of the device will invalidate the warranty.
All screw connections must be secured against loosening.
The gas transmitter is ready for attachment to a terminal box.
The Ex e PIR 7000 (68 11 898) terminal box is recommended for the model with M25
threaded connection (IDS 011x).
The Ex d PIR 7000 junction box (45 44 099 made of aluminium or 45 44 098 made of SS 316
stainless steel) is recommended for the model with 3/4" NPT threaded connection (IDS 010x).
Any approved terminal box can be used if it has a M25 (Ex e and Ex tD) or 3/4" NPT (Ex d and
explosion-proof and Ex tD) opening (depending on the gas transmitter thread) and connection
terminals for at least three conductors (four when using serial communication) and earth.
The terminal box must be suitable for the installation location and the application.
The terminal box and gas transmitter must be installed so the terminal box is not mechanically
stressed at the connection point.
Use approved plugs to close any unused cable entry openings at the terminal box.
For connection in the "flameproof enclosure" explosion protection type (Ex d) or
"Explosion Proof"
If necessary: Install approved connecting piece for the relevant explosion protection type
between terminal box and gas transmitter.
For connection in the "increased safety" explosion protection type (Ex e)
The wall of the terminal box must be 4.2 mm to 12 mm thick at the installation surface.
The sealing area must be flat and clean in the area of 28 mm to 32 mm diameter to
guarantee a proper seal with the included O-ring.
Lock M25 nut to prevent loosening.
